Wait a minute, did I leave my flashlight in the refridgerator? (share similar exp.'s)

Have you ever had one of those days where you get to work and ask yourself, 'Self, did I leave my flashlight in the refridgerator?'? Well I did, and it stayed in there for just over 5 hours!

Here's the story: I work in an office where formal business dress is always required. As you probably know, some dress slacks simply do not have clip friendly pockets for EDC, so often times my light ends up in the front pocket of my lunch box until I get to work, then it goes on my desk (same routine for the past 7+ years at this job site).

Can you guess where this is going?

I get to work, and immediately get pulled away with an important issue that needs resolved asap. I make a pit stop by the fridge, toss my lunch in, and go on about my day. That was at 8:00am this morning.

Fast forward to 1:00pm this afternoon when I started getting hungry, and that's when the light bulb in my head turned on; Did I leave my torch in the fridge? Yep, I sure did.

So, I'm curious: have any of you left a torch in an unlikely spot just to find it later, scratching your head, asking yourself, 'what the heck was I thinking?' (or not thinking!)? Feel free to share your story, or don't and just laugh at me .

I did have to call in to work one day because I lost my keys. 4 hours later I gave up looking for them and decided to make dinner, yes they were in the fridge! :laughing:

I have left it my pocket and had to dig through the dirty clothes to find it though.

I have left numerous lights (and tools) under the hood of vehicles. Often they fall out while pulling out of the garage, only to get run over. No matter hows many times I check, I always manage to forget something under there. When it happened to my first love (Brinkmann Maxfire LX) i swore to never use an important light for vehicle repair ever again.

Funny this should come up! THis weekend I found my old Mag Solitaire. I've had that thing for 6 or 7 years (and it looks it) Well 2 winters ago I had a particularly bad day and got ticked off and threw my keys at some inanimate object. Yep my mag solitaire took the brunt of the force and came apart (I threw it hard enough to shatter the bulb) All I could find was the endcap attached to the keys. Well that spring I found the body of the light (minus the battery- which never did show up). And I put it aside (having long since taken the endcap off my keychain and losing it in the junkheap on my dressser) this past weekend I was cleaning up some junk on my dresser and put 2 and 2 together and now have a FUNCTIONING Solitaire (I had to fashion a spring for it- oh and replace the shattered bulb with the extra in the tailcap). While using it last night (to raid the fridge) I lost it. (OK I was playing with several lights last night- the wife was watching her moms house so I got to play with flashlights till the wee hours of the morning). THis morning I opened the fridge and there it was- on top of the tub of butter- right where I left it.

A job would have to pay VERY well to convince me to stay in formal attire all day long (I hate formal dresses with a passion)...

That said, yep, it has happened that I've placed my flashlight in weird places and forgotten about it.
I once washed my teeth, then put the light in the plastic glass that holds my toothbrush, and confidently stuck the toothbrush in my pocket. Then I went out to see a friend, and only several minutes of fast walking later thought "hmm... flashlights aren't supposed to be wet... wtf?". Boy, did I feel dumb when I stuck my hand in my pocket...

Once I put my E01 in my left pants pocket, and went to play COD4. after that I ate dinner, then I realized it was missing. I was searching for it for an hour or so, and found it under the chair I was sitting in when i was playing. Not too interesting but thought I would share.

I have left numerous lights (and tools) under the hood of vehicles.

That happened to me with a smaller incan light.

Had done some work under the hood, placed the light on top of the radiator.

Had to take my wife to work. A couple of kilometers from home I had to stop at a set of traffic lights....klunk klunk klunk as the light rolled off the radiator, past the grill, hitting the bumper before it landed on the road.

"What was that?"
"The flashlight I forgot to remove from the radiator"

I couldn't get out to retrieve it.

I went back to see if any remnants of flashlight roadkill was present....nothing at all.

I lost my beloved E2D (Very 1st Surefire) 3 years ago on a bus coming back from a Mass Casualty Incident drill. It fell off my belt and I was never able to find it. Hopefully it made someone else's life a little more brighter.

hmm.. i always misplace stuff i "just had it here minute ago"

carkeys, cell, wallet, lights, remotecontrols, tools.. just everything.

all the places i have left em is too long list to mention here.

but more it happens to me more certain i am that there are small devious leprechauns/elves.. or "little people" as i call them, that steal the keys etc from the desk you put it on.. and hide it for few hours to make you look for it and turn the place upside down.. and then they bring it back to the place they took it from and where you looked on first time. "no, it wasnt here hour ago when i started to looking for them!!"

weirdest place i forgot the flashlight in past month.. and found it there some 15mins later when i needed it again and had to go thru the basic search (pockets, floor, under the car, over the car, pockets, inside the car, pockets, shelves and tabletops and pockets.. when i eventually found it, i did remember putting it there..

it was sticking out of the exhaustpipe, tail pipe of my car.. as it was convinient place at the moment.. my hands were full and needed to place it somewhere where it would not drop etc. poor fenix..

Left a cheap flashlight, one of those with 9x5mm LEDs in an aluminum body with a 3AAA carrier, under my '73 Toyota after working on the transfer case. Well, I finished what I was doing, so I parked the truck back in the shed, and went back home. Couple days later, I was thinking, "where did I leave that darn light?!" Looked everywhere, couldn't find it. When I went back, there it was, in the middle of the driveway, complete with gravel indentations and a slightly bent lip. Amazingly, that $3 chinese light survived being run over by a 4x4 and left in the weather for a couple days.

Last night we had pizza. After eating, I couldn't find the light I had with me. I spent over 2 hours looking for it, then my wife walked up to me with it in her hand and said "you lose something?" I asked where it was and she said it was in the spice rack, next to the red pepper.

I have also left lights under the hood of vehicles, most notably I left one of my SF L1's clipped to the hoodliner of my girlfriend's 350z. I have several of them, and did not realize that one was missing until she noticed it nearly a year later. It was amazing that it was still there, after several oil changes, and the fact that she drives like a bat out of hell! I left that same exact light clipped to my KTM 450 race quad a few months ago, thinking it would stay secure on the cowl since it took a firm pull to get it off. I was wrong, and hope to find it somewhere on our trails after the snow melts, but I'm not too optimistic, as the trails go through over half of the 47 acres of our land.

I noticed one of my favorite work lights, a Peak McKinley stainless SW UP missing after we had just finished up with a big home theater install. Kind of figured it was there somewhere. Found it a few months later after a bit of searching when returning to do some calibration/upgrade work.

NonCenCe, I have 4 of those devious "little people" running around my house, ages 6, 8, 10, 11. Nothing outside of my bedroom is safe.

My kids each have an Inova X1 on holders that I made for them on thier bed posts. These are the lights they use for middle of the night potty excursions. My youngest, who was 3 at the time, woke me up crying b/c she did not have her light. I asked her where it was, she just said "I dunno, sniff, sniff." Well were did you have it last? " I dunno, sniff, sniff." I offered to escort her to the bathroom with my light, but she said she did not have to go anymore. Now logically, I should have realized that she already went, and must have lost the light durring or after doing her business. Found out latter that day just how much fun it is getting a small flashlight out of the drain of a clogged up toilet! :sick2:

I'm not usually prone to loosing or misplacing stuff, but last week I lost my E01 for a few days... in the usual sleeve pocket of a flight suit. Found it after a complete laundry cycle on the washing machine and the clothes line. Not affected at all!
