I'm excited - this is my first Surefire.

I searched but couldn't find any info to help -

Is there a some kind of basic instructional thread?

What are recommended drop in or stars ( I hope I have the terminology right )

Does the M2 share the same characteristics as the 6P/Z2/C2 ? If so, you might be able to use one of those cree drop-ins from dealextreme. Fuss-free and easy to implement. If you need to mod it from scratch, then you are gonna need to do a lot of work

- Heatsink
- Emitter
- Converter/PCB
- Wiring
- Spring
etc....

Yeah I would rather have a drop in package - I think they have the same characteristics of the C2s - but I'm not totally sure.

Since the M2 uses P60 and P61, I believe the drop-ins should fit :D Just make sure you get the right one.. I don't think the one that switches on at the next mode is good....

it should be P60/D26 in size the bulb in the light should say something on the side. There are alot of drop-in's and it all comes down to how much you want to pay. review and ask before you buy.

I see you did a C2 - any advice or recommendations?

Paul,

I have a Malkoff P60 and Wolf eyes HO 170 Lum drop ins in my M2. I interchange them with my C2. They are both top of the line drop ins.

Excellent - thanks for the info

Gene's drop-in's are the best from what i hear (i do not own one). I purchased the sscP4 from DX and i am very happy with it. Not many people have this drop-in because they did not like the bin but I do not have a problem with it. Its a very bright, well made drop-in that i would highly suggest if you do not want to spend alot of money or wait a long time for a malkoff.

P.S. just remember most drop-ins are rated in emiter lumens so the HO WE 170 is not 170lm out the front

LED modify an M2?! Dude, that's blasphemy. ;-) The M2 uses a shock-isolated head to protect FILAMENTS from damage!

You'd have the exact same light as a C2 in LED mode except the C2 would be more compact.

Yeah but I's still prefer the longer battery life - it wouldn't help the led unit take very hard hits?

On this page http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.917

DX 3W Cree Module CM1 3.2V~9.0V Input

Ultrafire Cree, Regulator, Reflector 1x18650 2xCR123A Lamp Assembly

3W Cree, Regulator, Reflector 1x18650 2xCR123A Module Set

what do you think of these?

Cree 5-Mode Emitter Reflector and Driver Module (3.7V Input) ( this feature would be nice too )

Are the Markoffs and/or Wolf eyes that expensive? Everyone seems to really like them too.

the WE is around $50 and I think the malkoff is closer to $70. if you can get a malkoff that great but if not and your willing to spend a little more get the WE.

I love my seoul but the cree was whiter, I say "was" because it broke in a week due to a bad solder job at the factory. no bad solder job on the seoul and it has a little larger hot spot more like the stock LA.
