Was the kroll originally designed to fit the Mag?

I noticed that the kroll threads were there for a brass or gold colored metal sleeve. So is it just a coincidence that the kroll's threads fit the Mini Mag?

I may be wrong, but I believe the Kroll switch was made for the Streamlight Junior flashlight (at least that was the first flashlight I saw with the Kroll switch); I believe it's just a coincidence the switch fits the Mini-Mag.

Re: Was the kroll originally designed to fit the M

The Kroll's been available for at least a year and a half. I think it precedes the Streamlight Junior by quite a bit.

The Kroll was also used in the ARC LS series.

Re: Was the kroll originally designed to fit the M

The Kroll, we know and love, has been a standard part for the Streamlight Junior for years, and was introduced by Streamlight in it's present form. Streamlight has recently added a new Kroll style switch for their Streamlight Jr. Luxeon. Same type rubber boot, but different switch body, with the threads being aluminum. This new switch has different threads than the, old standby. Kroll. The standard Kroll can be purchased through Streamlight, or other outlets, such as the Sandwich Shoppe. Apparently Streamlight does own the exclusive rights to the Kroll. I buy all of my Kroll's from a Streamlight outlet in Santa Rosa, CA.

The 2 Kroll TailCap switches that I bought from the Sandwich Shoppe for the MiniMag 2AA have plastic/nylon(?) bodies and threads - as shown in this photo -

I know the kroll fits the minimag I am not to sure if it
was designed specially for the Mag

Re: Was the kroll originally designed to fit the M

I believe that the Kroll is also used in the Longbow Clikie

Re: Was the kroll originally designed to fit the M

So this Kroll switch will work perfectly on Minimag ?

Re: Was the kroll originally designed to fit the M

I remember some threads about a metal sleeve so the Kroll could be used with a G2, but I've been unable to find any of those. Do they actually exist? Will a Kroll work with a G2?

Kroll is universal...

The Kroll probably fits a lot of AA sized flashlights because the thread needs to be that size to allow a AA cell to fit snugly inside the body. Too small a hole and the batteries won't fit, too large and the batteries rattle about. So most threads for a AA light will be the same, thus the quasi-universal nature of the Kroll switch.

The Longbow clickie cap is pictured here.

Re: Kroll is universal...

I had a Streamlight 2AA in the late 80's that used a clickie switch identical to the Kroll, rubber boot & all. It could be that the Kroll has been in existance for longer.

As for it being created for a MiniM*g, very doubtful since M*g itself does not sell any of their lights with it. The matching diameter that is ideal for AA batteries has already been mentioned. The matching thread was probably just a happy coincidence for us.

Re: Was the kroll originally designed to fit the M

while we're on the subject of krolls, any suggestions on the best place to get a few. I need about 3 or four of them, and am looking for best price with shipping

Yes the krolls are used inside Micras, which I have, which is also why I posted this topic. So the kroll can fit in many AA lights?

So does the new metal kroll fit the mag?

Re: Was the kroll originally designed to fit the M

It has been theorized - NO, as the way it is.

I don't know if anyone has actually tried though.

It would seem rather silly to change the light rather than just the switch.

Re: Was the kroll originally designed to fit the M

The aluminum Kroll type switch does not fit the minimag. That is the first thing I did when I got the Luxeon Jr. home, attempt to thread the aluminum switch onto my minimag. Threads seem to be finer than the minimag threads.
