That is so cool. Does the bleach have anything to do with the lighting properties or is it just for keepin the inside clean?

Hi Hodsta
The info in the video link seems to be intentionally misleading, saying charging up
the bottle to emit light is a total lie. ie the guy with a meter measuring something. See the pic I captured from that vid. The bottles
stick up thru holes cut in the roof. They act as a lens and do a very good job of getting sunlight inside and spreading it out---as lens's do.
It just a clever & simple way to make a skylight to let in the sun and easily brighter than a 60watt bulb! No chemical luminesence is involved.
Saling ships have used glass prisms to do the same for 100's of years. They were flush to the deck above but hung down in the same way as these waterbottle lamps. No magic, no rocket science, just a skylight...sorry.

These seem to be homemade lights bringing photons into dark areas. Yes?

Don't know why I could not post this to the other thread in CPFmarketplace.
Tried and failed but they're say working on it so in the interem...here we are.

Oh and the bleach is just to kill algae. Never seen bleach glowing in the washing machine have we?

-cheers

Ok , I did a quick test with a spare box and a bottle of water w/bleach stuck thru a hole in the box.
And it is very bright inside as these pics show. So it works. Did not fiddle with the camera to make pics brighter. Just normal auto expoure.

This idea could be very helpful to many people worldwide who cannot pay for
high energy costs.

Why move this/these threads to the cpfmarketplace?
Not selling anything. Smarter cpf people please explain.

Its being discussed in the Wine, Cheese & Cigar Saloon, the equivilent of the Cafe in CPF.

Tried again to post to the cpfmarketplace thread. Failed- invalid password.
Do I need to re-register with a different
username/password than my CPF. Never tried to post there before. Maybe its just the email problem so no worries.:candle:

Hei Hodsta - what did you think of my water bottle experiment pictures?

B@rt did say since CPF & CPFM exists on different servers moving them is next to impossible...but if CPFM is acting up or if you feel the thread is better suited here PM a admin and plead the closure of the CPFM thread:grin2:

EDIT: I sent B@rt a PM, we'll see:grin2:

Nice one. I must admit having watched the video I thought a claim was being made a some chemoluminescent reaction was occuring and actually producing light - clearly bonkers. However I now see they simply act as a prism.

cool, bart closed the other one.....

looks cool, but i am wondering how that guy is measureing "current" or whatever, by holding the "voltmeter" just below the bottle....

Crenshaw

cool but isn't that a little bit rude?? :nana:

maybe thay can make something better than a Cola bottle...

anyway very good and interesting idea!

thanks!

Thankyou Bart. Thats the one I'd install in my roof!

Concerning the Liveleak video: it must have suffered translation problems
to english and multiple edits for broadcast for that 'shock effect'.

Anyway, I can imagine some UN Agency will be installing these into needy homes just like they dig wells and distribute food and medical aid around the world.

Note that recyclers have a UV damage spec of 6 months outdoor storage
of PET plastic water bottles so the chemicals can be recycled for greatest gain.
But we have all seen water bottles littered everywhere that are years old
and still seem fairly strong so roof installed bottles may have years
of service.

there is a science project involving bleach w/other chemcals to make a glowing tomato... reason this caught my attention.
Thanks again CPF :tinfoil:

Ever thought of a window? It might be good for a boat when there is no space for windows. These bottles will conduct heat pretty good, so they might loose on heating what they save on light.

Think these water bottle skylights would be most useful for people who are poor,
in areas without an electrical power grid, and have no money to buy candles let alone a fancy light-pipe for whatever shelter they call home.

In poor contries this would be useful because there are no windows in many houses. The only light comes in through the cracks in the walls and the opened door or the fire inside. Also, it would keep some of the plastic water bottles from littering the streets.
