i'm looking for small waterproof connectors!
i want to switch battery packs of my headlight (for a choice between the small head-worn battery pack and a large beltpack) the cable is about 4mm in diameter

with waterproof i don't mean i will go diving, but it should stand up to really heavy rain for example

a google search didn't result in anything useful
any ideas or sources? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

Fischer connectors are very nice and very waterproof but aren't cheap. Also take a look at Bulgin buccaneer connectors

you could always try using bulb grease on the connectors if they are plug and socket type.

You might try finding molded cordsets such as those used for industrial sensors - they usually have an IP65 environmental rating that should easily suit your application.

IFM-Efector, Allen-Bradley, and Lumberg are just a few manufacturers offering such cordsets. You could try a local industrial electrical supply house for a source.

One of the smaller connector sizes is commonly referred to by the industry as the "pico" series. This should do well for your application if the current will be no more than about 2 amps.

Hope this helps - John

Try automotive stores - look for connectors for hooking up trailer lights. Those typically are water resistant.

Or. go to a junk yard and tear apart a wiring harness for a fairly recent, 1994-newer fuel injected car, all the connectors will be "weatherpack" or something like that. real neat.

1/4 inch spade connectors of the type used on vehicles are not waterproof, but they work for years in wet environments.

and are available in a handy smaller size.
