Weird Eos Beam

Hi,

I returned my EOS rebel due to a crack in the inside lense. The new one arrived today and the beam is different.

The LED seems off annoyingly off centre and the beam is coloured blue on the LHS and warm yellow on the RHS. :(

I wonder if the lense is not seated properly. I tried to open the inside of the lamp up myself but am worried I might crack the housing.

Anyone opened one of these up before without damaging it? Anyone know why the beam colour is not uniform?

What rotten luck...

Thanks Steve

Er...still on with the beamshots...

In the meantime, do you know how to access the lense and LED of the Eos easily? It doesn't want to come apart when I try to get inside it.

Thanks Steve

Pleased to report I have fixed the problem. Having searched CPF on Eos mods, I found quite a few threads explaining how to access the LED (wish I had just done this in the first place doh!

After drilling out the plastic rivets, the electronics just pull straight out of the housing. You have to be carefull to not drill too deep, otherwise it won't hold together when you re-assemble.

The LED star was off-centre and so was the lense. A quick adjustment and now the lamp is perfect. :twothumbs

Does't the new Rebel Eos have the same star & optic alignment notches that the original Eos has?

Definitely the same star, not sure about the optic as it is different from the original.

I haven't got the old EOS to compare I'm afraid guys.

Going on a night walk soon - looking forward to getting the Eos out doing what it's good for. It's not quite the same messing about with a light in the house...

Well, I have just received a new EOS and while the beam is perfect, something rattles inside the headlamp when I shake it , it can be heared even when it's on the head and you move faster. Sending it back is not an option (not worth the shipping and lost time). Maybe I can open it, but I am affraid of the drilling, don't know... :sigh:

I believe the optic assembly and optic is slightly changed on the new EOS. It's not the exact same as the previous version.

I also had some rattling indide my EOS before. It was the dome of the rebel led. It was shipped broken off!

:(

In any case, my EOS is modded with a high CRI seoul and McR18 reflector so this no longer applies...

:ohgeez:I hope it's not the LED dome... It seems to work normal, and the sound is like metallic or hard plastic, something small that's rattling all over the inside, like a screw or something. But it's annoying.

I wasn't too happy either about the drilling in case I messed up, but it didn't turn out too difficult. The trick is to use a very small drill bit and just remove a little of the plastic rivet material at a time until you can pull the electronics free. Do a search on "Eos mod" and the first thread that comes up has nice clear photos of the rivets drilled. Just don't drill too deep....

Unfortunately, I think rattle + off-center beam + odd tint might equal broken LED dome. :(

FWIW, I've never drilled the little plastic nubs out. I use a thin-tipped screwdriver and bend the edges of the nubs inwards. One of my modded Eos still "clicks" in place when putting everything back together.
