So I put the head from my Nitecore Extreme on the body of my SureFire E2DL due to switching problems with the Nitecore unit.

Well I put it all together I fired it up. I had one split second of light then nothing. No surge, no flicker, just nothing. The LED "appears" to be fine...but then I am no expert either.

I am running RCR123s. Did I blow the NEX head?

Yeah, the NEX is only supposed to take one CR123a or one li-ion.

Bummer. :mecry:

Max would 4.2 volt's, 2 RCR123 are 8.4 volt's.
Dead it would be..:poof:

Don't feel too bad, most of us have killed our lights before.

The Nitecore is a boost head, which means it raises the voltage to what the LED needs. If the batteries have too much voltage and the driver has no safety for this, then the driver either goes into direct drive, and severly overdrives the LED, or the driver dies. The LED needs around 3.5-3.7v, so 2 RCR123s will either kill the driver, the LED, or both.

You probably blew the head. If it has a safety feature, it might still work, try it back on the old body.

If it is indeed dead, might be a good time to sent it to a modder :naughty:

Ya I tried the original body too...no go. Looks like I blew one of the two pieces you mentioned. Should there be any visual indication whether the LED is good or not? It looks like it always has...

A modder huh? Any more info...I'm interested. ;)

Post a "Looking for Modder" type thread in the Homemade and modified section.

My guess is that the LED is fine but the driver blew. If you can get to the LED, try direct driving it with a single CR123 battery. If it lights up, you'll need a new driver.

Does the head smell funny, like burned?

negative...it just smells like whatever lubricant they put on the threads.

anybody have any advice on how to disassemble the head? I don't even know where to begin.
