Whaqt\'s your favorite movie series?

Hi everyone,

I am just curious to here what movie series you like the most. Some are great and continue the life of the first, second, third ,etc. movies, but some are bad and destroy the story line of a great original.

My favorites are:

Jurassic Park (1,2, and 3)

Back to the Future (1,2, and 3)

James Bond (1 -21)

The Pink Panther (1-5)

Alien (1,and 2 (3,4 suck))

I'm especially into the JP series as of right now. I just love every one of them and could watch them all a hundred times in a row.

So, let's here it!!

Re: Whaqt\'s your favorite movie series?

Star Trek series
Godzilla (both the old and the current Toho productions)
Dirty Harry
Mad Max (I hear stories of a new one coming)
Pink Panther, but only the ones before Peter Sellers died.

Re: Whaqt\'s your favorite movie series?

Back to the Future. The original was the best because it had that sense of discovery and wonder to it.

*Edit, just thought of another one*

City Slickers - the underlying theme of the first episode speaks to me, and I just love the music.

Re: Whaqt\'s your favorite movie series?

Can you think of a movie series say with at least three movies where the last one was as good as the first? I can't.

Re: Whaqt\'s your favorite movie series?

The only movies I can think of that are the third in a series that are pretty good is the third "Back To the Future" and the the third Star Trek movie. I didn't really like the third star trek movie but I don't think it was any worse or better than the others.

Re: Whaqt\'s your favorite movie series?

I think one of the reasons for this is that the basic premise of the movie is sprung upon the viewer during the first episode. Sequels tend to be a re-hash of the original story in order to stay true to the theme, so that it qualifies as a sequel. To take BTTF as an example, the wonderment of the existince of a time machine is explored in the first movie; in the sequels, the novelty is partly gone because the Big Discovery has already been made, and now all they can do is juggle other, smaller stories around that.

Re: Whaqt\'s your favorite movie series?

John Wayne's cavalry western movies directed by John Ford, especially Fort Apache, Rio Grande, and She Wore A Yellow Ribbon. Those are still worth a look.

Why not the Marx Brothers movies?

The old Thin Man movies were fun, too.

In the 70's there was Cotton Comes to Harlem, and Come Back, Charleston Blue, based on Chester Himes' books about two Harlem police -- Coffin Ed and Gravedigger Jones. Great fun.

Abbott & Costello films.

The Hope & Crosby Road films.

Then there were the Andy Hardy, the Ma & Pa Kettle, the Francis the Talking Mule, and the Three Stoges movies (not the short films), all of which were pretty terrible.

Nice choices, like the Star Trek and LOTR series.

At the top of my head are ones that were created by the same man, combining a bit of mythology in them; has anyone heard of Gregory Widen? He was the guy who wrote -

The Highlander (The first one with Sean Connery WAS the best, the rest was diminishing returns as well)

The Prophecy (was also a trilogy about murderous angels and Archangel Gabriel leading them but was forgiven in the end)
