ok got the tube and got some unprotected 18650 for it because i thought that was the way to go "new to this recharge stuff" well found out in another post i started that maybe it's not. i tend to agree. so to make it a little easier for me i think i should go to protected cells. so does anyone know what protected cell will fit ? be gentle with me:shrug:

The HDS lights will sense the battery type. Low voltage protection is built in so an unprotected cell is "safe" in a HDS light. HDS shipped an unprotected cell with the 18650 tubes.

thanks tritium i was pretty sure that they were safe in my hds. But just to make it simple for me i was looking to start charging only protected 18650. so i'm looking for a 18650 protected that will fit. some are just to big.

Tritium is correct that the HDS light has its own LV protection, but this can be fooled if a partially-charged cell is inserted. The circuit assumes the cell is full, so it can be over-discharged.

You might think it odd for someone to put in a partially-discharged cell, but it could happen if (for example) you unscrew the tube to check the voltage of the cell, or change the tube for the 123 tube, then back to the 18650 tube again, etc. Do you see what I mean? It can easily happen.

As to which protected cell you should use, I recommend AW's_protected_18650 for $12.
