i purchased some kpr113's for my tec 40s...not the brightest, but they seem very reliable with lithiums. (cant wait to try the xpr113) i also like the kpr103-very nice.

anyway, the original kpr113 were rayovac, and on the side of the bulb base was printed "philips". these bulbs have a very smooth beam.

a few days ago i picked up some spare kpr113's from sears: dorcy brand. "dorcy krypton" is on the bulb base.

well, the dorcys are a step below the rayovacs in beam quality. they are ringy, and the central spot is far more blotchy. perhaps it was just a fluke.

back to walmart to get some rayovacs....

hmmm...upon closer inspection, the dorcy filiment and blulb appear to be slightly off center.

and another difference: the glass looks "rippled" toward the top of the bulb. i cannot feel any texture, but the pattern can be seen.
i think the ripples are giving a funky beam.

live an learn...

It's hard to look at bulbs in the package, but I do just that to the best of my ability. I turn them all different ways. I do so to try and find the most perfectly centered, and optically beautiful bulbs!

I have found some VERY off center filaments!!!
