What are my options for modding my old 3D mag? I'd like as bright as possible, but be able to use it continuously. Could I get around 500 lumens without generating too much heat? I can solder and am fairly savvy with electronics.

Thanks for any info :twothumbs

The most bang for the buck with a Mag3D is modding it into a Mag85 for around 800 lumens out the front and around 40 minutes runtime.

That uses FiveMega's 9aa-3D battery holder to drive a bipin 1185 bulb. The bipin bulb can be used with FM's PR to bipin adapter or one of Kiu's High Temp socket kits. You'll also need a metal reflector and glass lens which are also available from both FiveMega and Litho123 in the earlier links.

With the exception of the Kiu kit, all parts are drop in replacements. The Kiu kit takes a little more work, but it has lower resistance and more heat tolerance than the stock mag bulb holder.

if your mag3D is old (no "D" in serial NO.) you should do the spring and switch resistence fix.
