What are the best RCR123s on the market right now?

Are the AW RCR123s still the best?

I think you need to define what you are asking by "best." Not to be facetious, but there are issues of safest, best run times at various amp draw rates, least reported failures/issues, best manufacturer reputation, best price (including shipping), best safety if used in series (rather than individually), etc. etc. Various ones will stand out in each of those categories.

I'd be looking for best safety and/or runtime in a single cell light.

I'm going to start off with my personal favorite because that's just the way I decided to start. No big deal.

My preferred brand is e-lectronics.net rechargable CR123s. They offer a product that I believe is competitive with the top dogs in both capacity and price. I've bought 3.0v protected/regulated cells, 3.7v protected cells, 3.2v LiFePo4 cells, chargers, and even primary cells. Never been disappointed. All the rechargables are still healthy. In addition to the quality of their cells, I buy from them because when I came to them with an armload of safety concerns (questions every responsible consumer of Li-Ion cells should ask) and questions about product specs, they went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure I had all the information I needed and all my concerns about the technology were addressed. Post-purchase support was of equal caliber. That sort of customer service goes a long way with me.
Oh yeah - and the Pacific Ocean is a lot bigger than Oregon (quicker shipping to California from Washington than Hong Kong:p)

My personal preference aside, I'd sound foolish if I claimed AW's cells are somehow inferior to any others. They are CPF's gold standard for rechargable CR123s. Regular design improvements to the safety features are incorporated quickly into the product: which is icing on the cake when you're talking about batteries that already have outstanding capacity, and withstand current draws like you wouldn't believe. His commitment to rigorous product testing and QC is something all companies in every industry should emulate. (I believe he actually threw one into a :faint: barbeque pit) Though he is not situated in the US (see:Oceans>Pacific>Hugeness of, comment earlier), his product is available for purchase from the very highly regarded folks at Lighthound, and he maintains a ubiquitous presence here on CPF.

Somehow I've never owned a Pila battery. I'm not sure why. I've heard good things, though.

I should mention that I have no idea what I'm talking about, and might very well be wrong about everything I've ever said.:tinfoil: Hope this helps!

Winston - thanks for that link! Have you tried the CR123a primaries they have on sale @ 10 for $9?

Back to the original question - I'd have to say AW's are the standard to beat. I'd bet he's sold to dozens of CPF members, if not hundreds. If someone has something safer and higher capacity, let us know!

I have a bundle at work in "the locker with no lock." Some of my co-workers are apt to forget batteries every once in a while, so I just put the pack of ten in the locker (everyone has access to that particular one) with a note to anyone who takes one that they owe me a dollar. No complaints from anyone. Maybe I'll do a runtime test tonight...

P.S. I haven't tried the ones designed for low current draw. 1800mAh or something. I just don't have anything to put them in, really.
