What can I jam 4 IMR 26500's into?

Looking to put together 4 AW IMR 26500's behind an Osram 64440, but having trouble choosing an appropriate D battery Mag host. I was thinking it looks like they would fit in a 3D Mag pretty well?

Thanks!

D cells are 60mm long, so a 3D fits 180mm worth of cells. 4x IMR 26500's would be 200mm total, 20mm to big.

So with a 3D mag, that may work out, but you will definitly have to use a short spring or not use a spring at all in the tail cap.

I wonder if it would fit if you took out the spring and had the last cell go into the tailcap? Otherwise you could try a bored 4C Maglite, but you might also need one of Fivemega's tailcaps if the IMR cells turn out to be a bit longer than standard C-cells (I'm not sure if they are or not).

Here's what I did.

Host is a Mag 3D Digi Camo.

You will need to do a deep tail cap mod. I used a KD Golden Shorty Spring and I still need to cut the spring down by 1 full round at the bottom in order not to damage the battery insulator.

Hope this helps 😉

If you use a smaller diameter spring, you should only need to scrape the anodizing off the inside, bottom of the tailcap. Assuming the length of the 26500's are accurate, four will easily fit in a 3D with the smaller spring.

Diameter of AW cells just exceeds 'new' mag internal diameter. If the 'C' m@g is bored it may fit, also iirc a decades or more old 'C' m@g had a larger ID and may fit.
DM@gs also opens up the series AA options, easy to change a bulb and swap in a nimh battery pack.

4xIMR26500s fit a 3xD mag ok but your voltage may not be what you want to burn the 440. The 623 may work better with 14.8v. I ran my 440 @ 19.2v.

Looking at the graph's that 623 would be pretty sweet, but i come up with a runtime of only 11 or 12 mins though. And you're right, I really wouldn't be overdriving the 64440 as much as I thought.

My goal for this one is to get into the 2000 bulb lumen range with at least 25 minute runtime. I still like the idea of squeezing the 4 IMR 26500's into a 4D Mag, guess it's back to the graphs!

Thanks, Guys!

What you need is 3x26500+FM1909=arround 2K lumens with 30 mins run time. "should fit in a 2D mag"

I'll have to see if i can find a few of these custom bulbs! I already have a 2D with 3 26500 IMR's with an 1185 on it and an AW 3 stage soft start, so it'll just be a matter of swapping bulbs. Thanks!!
