Got this monster turbo-head (4.5" Reflector :sick2🙂 old school Energizer Halogen at the local thrift store for $3 and some change. Most of the lights you get at these places are corroded and funky on the inside...this one looks like it was never used...the thick, quality plastic lens was pretty clean, considering the age. The stamp on the back is "Eveready" and "Union Carbide". Stock set-up is 3D with a 4.5 Halogen bulb (older model...one I've never seen...looks like it may be a Carly???) Also, what can I do to hot-rod this thing??? I mean, a 4.5" of reflector space? 3D-AA adapter = 13.5 volts...but will that melt the reflector? Think I'll try throwing an LED in there and see how it throws. Also, can (should) I frost the bulb with glass frost, or sanding??? The throw on this easily out-does my 6-Volt N1 Lamp in a 2.5" reflector, but the beam is FUGLY!

Any way...here it is up next to the uber 3" Surefire SRTH, and a few others for comparison...

Thanks in advance for any insight any of you old timers may be able to offer!

Found this similar Red 3 cell model from 1976

dit: Just got the bulb out...turns out to be an Osram from Deustchland. Pretty bright for 4 volts...maybe I should throw a 2-Cell magnum star xenon in there? Anyway, tried an LED...not uber bright, but the spill drops right off at my feet, and with super light R/C's, this is a perfect (albeit big) walk through the woods light. I'll report back when I get the magnum star xenon in there, and see if I get any improvement.
