What did you use your flashlight for today?

Unexpectedly needed to open a plugged kitchen sink at my dad's house today. Houseguests dumped coffee grounds in the sink and the grounds made a solid plug right in the trap downstream to the disposal. Water was backed up and the disposal did nothing.

Out comes my Peak Eiger SS with a Nichia 219b. The 10440 had already been run down about 10 minutes at full bright the night before. Lit the space as I disassembled the trap, had grey water spray on to me and the light. I cleared the blockage and reassembled. I washed my hands and the Eiger in copious amounts of soap. The little light took it all like a champ with just enough juice for the 20 minute job. Final inspection for leaks was done with the light just starting to dim.

Something about the 219B makes it a pleasure to use even in the grossest of circumstances. Heh.

Coincidentally, I used my T3, that also has a 219B, to light up the bathroom drain so I could check it for sludge buildup. Sink and shower drainage pipes sure look "beautiful" under that high quality beam.

Gave the drain a high-pressure blast until all the slime had broken apart and been carried off through the drain's debris basket. Fished out what little hair had built up in the basket with a makeshift hook made from thick wire, dumped it in the nearby bin, and now we're good for at least the next week. Love me some periodic maintenance.

I dropped a black ring on a dark, patterned carpet in a dimly lit room at work. I got on the floor and tried using my phone's light to find it with no luck. So I got up, walked back to my desk and got my PD-36. Found it pretty quickly with a 'real' light.
Flashlights 1, phone flashes 0. For the Nth time now.

Powertac Saber Penlight to check the backseat of my car after locking all the doors, in the dark enclosed garage that I share with 41 of my other neighbors. Thought I left something on the backseat after getting home. Nope!

I'm playing with my 5D mag atm. I bought some drop ins like lumen craft 4200lm with 26650 batts x4. (2 at a time with dummies)
Just arrived today was a crenulated bezel and a fresh rubber seal for the switch.
On a side note: The keeppower batteries didn't seem to match each other very well until I cycled them up/down a couple of times. Now they seem to be closely matched for series work.

Otherwise, I'm just playing right now. Purposely climbing into a dark space...not emotionally LOL

Not today but a few days ago I started using a 5D Maglite for a modern wrist watch display.

Hair scrunchies from the $ store act as buffers between them.
When displaying it vertical the watches are placed at 90 degree intervals so as to not have it weighted on one side or the other.

The vintage watches will likely be displayed on an old Bright Star.

That's the most creative unorthodox way to use a light I've seen so far. Amazing.

I'm walking about 10 minutes ago in the dark with a flashlight under my feet, I turn the corner of a multi-story building and see a cat, drinking from a bowl, I decided not to disturb him, walking through it along a narrow path between the wall and a lawn with flowers, and went around, took 10 steps and I see a mouse or a small rat, sitting and brazenly bristling at me. And I start calling the cat "kitty-kitty-kitty" and so on for about 5 or 6 minutes, in the end he deigned to slowly approach me, I show him the mouse with beam of flashlight and say "food", he went there, looked at the mouse, he did not understand at first, but as soon as he smelled that it was edible, he immediately grabbed it by the scruff of the neck with his teeth and slowly walked on. She only managed to scream once. Perhaps he had already played with it and let it go, and maybe not, who knows, but the cat now has food))

Family bought a new house, went over to spend the night.

Started a fire pit - but was pitch black out, and no lights in or near shed where firewood is located.
I probably could have felt myself around to find the wood, however I pulled the HDS out and it helps me move several spiders and other insects out of the way and off the wood I needed for the pit, that was nice.

Wanted to do some smores, lanterns were bought by the homeowner but left at their previous address as they aren't done moving yet.
I went ahead and tail-stood the HDS and gave enough light necessary to prep and make the smores. (Yes, they were good)

There was no light in one of the bedrooms. Needed to fix the door at about 11 pm as it wasn't closing correctly and allowing AC to escape from the room.

Pulled out my HDS rotary, NB40 (same as used with above examples) - this time, a few minutes into the fix, the HDS started blinking and stepped down.

Not the best time as I was using it to light up the whole room so it was hands-free umbrella off the ceiling so I can use both hands to help pop the pins out of the hinges and change door out / and make adjustments.

After the step down, it became noticeably harder to see where pins were placed on the floor along with other things like the screwdriver and other tools. --- Went ahead and used the HDS to find my duffle bag, went inside of it and grabbed my Modlite PLHv-2 - running on a 21700 battery.

Out it came, and the modlite lit the entire room up with ease, (obviously much better then the HDS did originally) ... Tail-stood the modlite on floor umbrella off ceiling.

Worked like a charm and made the fix that much easier. -- Prob should have used to modlite from the get-go, would have made it a bit easier for sure but for general EDC tasks the HDS is usually more then enough.

After this, it seems like the boiler had went out due to no hot water, so down to the basement we went to check on things.... out came the modlite PLHv2 and made a huge basement (prob 1,000+ sq ft.) light up like daytime, was able to check on things and do what was needed.

Thankfully I took these 2 lights with me. If not, I think we'd be stuck using our phone lights for all of the above... Most of which we probably could have gotten away with... however it certainly would have made things a lot less safe and a lot harder.

Anyway, thats enough of a ramble!

I hate vermin. Good of you to help the stray cat. We have strays at my 3rd shift job-site. Been several years since we had rats on the property.

Also.... Awhile back I bought a Benchmade Pinnacle used off of eBay. Had a couple of them when they were first introduced. Lost a bunch of knives moving about 22 years ago from my collection. Sadly, those were among the bunch. Happy to have replaced it. Put it down on one spot with a bunch of other open deliveries I hadn't gotten to organizing, yet. Last night, it was missing! I knew where it should be. Grabbed my Thrunite TT20, turbo mode for less than 30 seconds onto the pile. Found it! Another item had slid down and was obscuring it. Also nearly burned my hand when I touched the bezel! Seriously, if that bezel was flat and wide, you could fry an egg on it considering how hot it had gotten in those seconds.

Camping adventures are always full of family fun, and this trip was no exception. Some parts of the campsite turned pitch black, especially around the general parking lot. Over the past two weeks, my trusty lights have truly proven their worth!

After a delicious meal at a nearby restaurant, we returned to the campsite and parked in the general car park. My niece and nephew were excited to navigate the dark path back to their tent, so I handed them my Foursevens Mini ML MkII and Sofirn IF23 flashlights. Fortunately, I had packed my trusty Streamlight 1L-1AA, which lit up the way back to my own campsite perfectly.

Turns out, having a few flashlights on hand can make a camping trip not just easier, but a lot more fun!

Today at work a gate system suddenly stopped functioning. After looking at a number of possibilities, out came the PD-36R as I had to lean into a dark corner to inspect some fine gauge wiring in the back of a controller. Found a wire that had popped out of it's terminal and fixed it. Normal functioning restored.

Had an issue with my dryer, lent the repairman a Surefire 6p with Malkoff M61N to see in and around the area as he had left his light in the truck. Also had an exterminator come to do his rounds in my apartment (3 family rental). He had a streamlight strion of sorts- cool to see.

Last night I used my HDS rotary to remove sutures from a patient that waited longer than he should have to have them removed. Skin was growing over the sutures and it was hard to see the knots. We have an awesome procedure light on wheels at work but it wasn't nearby and I was being a bit lazy.

This is why I follow doctors' instructions completely, down to the letter.

One of the reasons why my colonoscopy back several weeks ago went well. (Though imagine my surprise when they gave me a packet of documents concerning the procedure. Did not need to see photos of the inside of my.... well, you know. Didn't ask the doctor which medical light model was used to illuminate the inside of me.)

That latter use completely justifies having a very high CRI, high R9 torch at hand. Is it right to think the Rotary made negotiating the skin from the sutures a lot easier?
I was using an NLT with DC-fix which helps blend the beam making it imo a better tint- obviously doesn't help the CRI. The light worked perfectly for this case.

I have to do a side by side comparison but I find a lot of practitioners don't notice and like a bright, concentrated hotspot. As a whole, the lighting in the ER is the same as pretty much any office building. We do have a cool spotlight in the resuscitation bay that offers different tints, I have to make a post on it. (One tint is warmer and it's called the cardiac tint)

I used to work EMS and even until now the only lights that really washed out skin tones seemed to be the really green or blue tinged lights with a really low CRI. I carried a Malkoff M61N and that was perfect for in and out of the hospital. I don't recall how it was with my 1st gen Surefire 6PL but I did have a Zebralight H51fw that I carried in a cargo pocket and most likely used that for skin color.

There is a room in the ER that we do the urine tests in and trying to do a urine dip there is terrible.
This particular test is color based and based on the shade of many different colors, is the result. The lighting makes it so hard to discern what shade it is exactly. Not a huge deal but annoying, not only to myself but to many others. I want to test it with lights off and using some of my lights (HDS, Zebralight H600fc and M61N) but there is a big "ick" factor.
