What did you use your flashlight for today?

Continuing Tales from Sween1911HQ...

Mrs. Sween1911 called me yesterday afternoon while at work. The right rear tire on the family van is losing air. Luckily, I've been through this so many times I have a bin in the garage with the tire kits and rubber cement and all the tools I need just for flat tire patching. I got home last night, grabbed my jack (that hadn't been working for years until I recently figured out how to purge and refill it) and took care of it. Despite my headlamp and drop-light, I pulled out my Surefire L1 to confirm I had the jack in the right spot.

I was working on a little grooming tool in the bathroom when a piece of it flew off into parts unknown. I pulled out my PD36R and looked all over for it unsuccessfully. I think it may be currently in low earth orbit.

I even tried one of my 365nm UV flashlights, thinking that the plastic parts on it might fluoresce. No luck. However I did discover a hidden fluorescent pattern in my eyeglass frames.

Charging up the included 14500 battery in my Klarus XT1A the other day.
Not only is the light painful to pull out of a pocket due to the clip design, but the Klarus 14500 battery can't hold a charge for any reasonable length of time.

A co-worker had an item disappear from his desk, so he got a replacement for it and we marked it with invisible fluorescent ink. I used an "Alonefire" UVA LED flashlight to reveal the finished markings, and he was happy with the result.

And now we play the Waiting Game.... 😁

Went to Longwood Gardens last night with the family. It's a big outdoor garden thing in SE Pennsylvania area. They do a big Christmas Holiday light and decorating display.

Being the flashaholic that I am and walking through a huge outdoor area at night, grabbed some trusty lights to go with me. Old school Fenix TK35 that I modded from an XML to an XM-L2 on a paracord lanyard around my neck. (I also swapped the lens to a UCLp acrylic one from flashlightlens) Compact and bright with throw on tap if I need it. Had the ole' Streamlight Protac HL X5 in my backpack in case major lighting was needed but never pulled it out.

I used a Mag 6D cell with Malkoff M61L plus my new Foursevens Quark mkiii Java to help my brother-in-law change a wheel on his Focus. He'd driven over a hole in the road, buckled the rim and got a slow puncture.
70 lumens medium mode on the Quark works great for close up work. The 6D mag was just lying on the floor but (230 lumens) lit up the side of the car nicely.

Eagtac P200LR after work, to check to make sure I got off all the new bird poop from my car. You park underneath a tree, you take your chances. Still, it was barely above 30-degrees F. all night. What type of silly excuse for a bird was out & about to have done that to my ride? Anyway, plenty of soft paper-towels, and a lot of slightly cold water got the job done.

Lumintop Tool 2.0 AA. Used most every night to find my way around my apartment.

Works wonderfully with a 14500 battery. It's cool white, but for a light I'm not using outside.. I don't care as much.

Dog walk this evening……SC53c n Zebralight. Dark garage to grab a Topo Chico……Zebralight. Check on one of two dogs going nutty in the backyard…..Zebralight. Super low level on the nightstand as I type…yes the Zebralight.
My Zebralight SC64w gets a workout every Saturday early morning.. checking the washer & dryer. (To make sure I don't leave anything behind- in a apartment building with a set of shared laundry rooms.)

Maglight 3D (modded to P7 emitter) accompanied me to another break in response, it's been my preferred response light for years, hard to beat it's extended runtime.

My wife took my now-high-CRI Elzetta Bravo from my belt and used it to light up my head so the doc could stitch it back together. Ooops. He said "No, I can see okay" (he couldn't), and then "Oh, that is quite good, isn't it". Gave me a small smile to think my light can compete with medical lights.

This sounds like one of those domestic abuse stories... But no, I just failed to duck a second time while moving out from under a machine to get another tool. No concussion, but a ton of blood and few stitches.
Ouch. Hope you're feeling better now.

Eagtac P200LR to light up what I thought was the shadow of a homeless man slumped over, unconscious, up against the flimsy wall of the outside compactor room while doing my nightly foot-patrol. Turns out a large section of the fake green grassy mesh material used to hide the view inside the room had fallen over and slumped down.

Yeah, that was fun. Of course Maintenance didn't report the issue to anyone. Why would they ever do a professional job?

Protac 1L-1AA for dog walk last night, and SC53C N for same walk tonight. Both make me happy. Oh and H53C for getting up under the Christmas tree and cranking the stand down as well as reading in bed at night.

Accidentally blinding myself.. with my new Lumintop Tool AA Nichia.

Somehow the high CRI version feels brighter, than my old cool white version of the same light. No idea why.

Installing a small second-hand wheelchair lift for a family member to get access to their house. (They had a stroke) The electrics were completely hashed up by the last guy, so I ended up rewiring the whole thing to make it work properly. Took a while, but it works perfectly now. Got it all positioned and anchored and levelled while the rain came down and darkness fell. We were grateful for the good light from my Elzetta Bravo.
