What do I need for light?

Hi everyone,

I live on a very large lake in Missouri, and enjoy the water very much. My friends and I often go snorkeling for crawfish etc. I have a few questions I thought you guys could help with.

We only dive to depths of probly 25ft max and most of the time we are in about 15 ft. Mostly in the day but sometimes at night. Even during the day our lake gets very dark at around 14 ft deep.

For what we do it seems like lights that have a tighter hot spot seem better, but am open to all suggestions.

The biggest problem we face is being able to hold the light where it is needed and flip over rocks at the same time.

I tried going with the a head lamp, but it kinda seemed to be in my eyes. Holding the light in my hand was better, but leaves me with only one hand for fishing. One day I strapped the light to my wrist, and that was not too bad, still not great though.

What would you do if you were snorkeling in dark water for crawdads?
Do you hold the light or use headlamps?
Should I be using an ashperical maybe?

For those conditions an aspheric based light with a goodman handle ( mounts on the back of your hand)

A head lamp will just light up all the particles in front of your eyes.

I think we may be on to something here. When I googled that mount a lot of things came up so I am assuming this is one of the preferred methods for lighting.

I may try to make my own mount. That one seems good, but I would like to have one with a neck on it between my hand and the light so I can adjust the angle of the beam.

Are you on Table Rock? I can't imagine any visability at all in Lake of the Ozarks at 25 feet, at least I have never had any.

Yes, Table Rock (Kimberling city near Branson). The lake here actually has good visibility fairly clean for a lake. I would guess that we hit the cold black water about 12-15 Ft, and with P60 XPG I can see the bottom at a distance of 5ft well and 8 or so its visible. Bull Shoals is not good at all, seems like you run the risk of crashing into trees or even the bottom. Taney is a bit cold:sick:.

I know it well, dive it all the time. It opens back up under 40 feet. I have family that lives in Kimberly City. Packhorses quad, would work well for you. Turbidity is not bad if you stay away from the masses.
