This bulb only has about 90hrs on it from new. However for 65hrs it has been subject to 40-60W and the last 25 odd hours 60-90W. The bulge is still unbelievably intact. I must have turned it off at just the right second, before it failed catastrophically. Also note the absence of the bottom elctrode. I can only imagine how hot it got in there to melt Quartz.

Hmmm has anyone seen what damage the molten arc chamber does when it blows in a reflector?:sick2:

It would be interesting to see those hrs + wattage on a Fatboy, & then see the arc chamber close up.:naughty:

Not shore when or if I can get some fatboys. But ill will be some time now.

Geesh, that's wicked! Nice picture MP. I say you put in back in the light and go for it....lol ;)

That sounds like a dare to me !! If it will still light your on. Though not in one of my lights, rather on the bench behind a sheet of alluminium. The more I think about it I don't know that it would explode, maybe more like fart and go out ?

Well I pumped ~100W into it for 15mins, no joy. So I ramped it up a bit more and gave it ~130W for 5mins then turned it down to ~100W for a further 5mins, nothing. The bulge is now bigger and saggier as well as cracked, but I got sick of standing there in one position with my finger on the off switch to the PSU. So I cut the wires off it and am going to attach them to one of the Fatboys.

dam, thats crazy.... You have abused that bulb bad

Seems they can take a whoopn, LOL

Is the colour temp & light output diff with the bulge?

It didn't seem to be putting out anywhere near what it should have, I think some of the gas had escaped through the crack in the arc chamber. I wasn't taking any notice of colour temp. But yeah I was surprised it even lit to begin with.
