What improvements would make McGizmo's even better?

Candle Power Flashlight Forum

Help Support CPF:

I believe any sufficiently-conductive substance can act as a Faraday cage, and titanium is definitely conductive.

If I were going to do it, I would replace the metal clip with a carbon-fiber clip wound with ridiculously-thin copper wire and coated with resin, and use that as the receiving end of the induction charger.

Inductive Coupling
How bout just making some part of the body nitrolon or some other non conductive material and including the coils and capacitance plates in that? It could then attach in accordance with the existing threads so it could almost be an "option" for any light with the same threads (I think) That way you could just run RCR123's in there and when your in the field change them out as you normally would...

For what my two cents are worth, I would love to see a blending of the Lunasol 20 and the Haiku- either a two stage floody low/ medium and then the throw main beam, with Haiku "high" output level, or a low flood followed by medium/ high main beam like the Haiku. This may be too much compromise, but on a Clicky body I think it would be fantastic.

+50^5, maybe in a 2-123 pack as well

the " Luna-Eclipse or Eclipse" :sssh:

I built a prototype LunaSol 20 with either a GDuP or 3S converter driving the Dragon; I can't remember which and actually don't know where the light is now?!?!

The UI is such that partial depression or twist of head gives you the expected low flood of the Nichias. Additional depression or twist of the head puts you into the last level selected on the Dragon, low, med or high. Quick cycling of on and off ramps you through the levels on the Dragon. My perception was that although you had additional choices, the UI was disconcerting and the low level of the dragon was of little utility. The cost of a 3 speed converter added to the already expensive and difficult build of the LunaSol 20 certainly didn't help either.

Many of the ideas being brought up are beyond my expertise and competence, plain and simple. I must rely on EE experts for the drivers and at best, I can communicate my ideas at the mechanical and geometrical level along with UI requirements but an EE has to be willing and provide me with the "black box". At one point, I had the great advantage of Wayne Y's expertise and assistance. That is history now. I am getting some good support and help from a couple great guys in Japan currently but at a much smaller economy of scale and in a much more sophisticated and demanding market. It becomes more and more challenging to identify a niche where I can function and service some part of the market not being addressed already and much more efficiently than I could ever hope to do.

I think I could design some pretty cool lights but there is no way I could finance them or bring them to market. I hope to be able to simplify and clarify some of my ideas and hope that they will be accepted by some of you so that I can continue on. 😱

fyrstormer,

I have no problem with that image but it is uncool to hot link to someone else's web site and against the forum rules. My bad for joking and suggesting that someone do it in another thread.

After posting this, I will see if I can edit your post and replace the image with one hosted on my web page. If successful, we can let it ride.... OK it's cool

Hmm, I think who-ever took that pic shouted "GOTCHA" after snapping this one hehe.

But to give an answer to your question; Yes, I would buy a flashlight from that man. Anyday

Sorry, I was unaware. Do you know why it's against forum rules?

It is not only about this forum rule, it's anywhere on the web. Hot-linking anything means you are using someone else's banwith to provide a content to your users. It's just a more respectfull practice not to hot-link anything as long as possible.

I see. I didn't think to look; was the picture not originally hosted on one of those big corporate photo sites?

No, it was his own website, you could have easily seen it in the address of the hotlink you made.
But further back on toppic, what woud make McGizmo's even better?

I've been thinking a lot about it, but beside the idea's I've seen here, I wouldn't know of anything. the wireless charging is super nice, when combined with a R123 so you can use 123's as well. Us can recharge it on your nightstand, always ready, take it with you in the morning, always a full R123.
But if that would mean that you have to stop using titanium, I think it is not worth it.

Something else I haven't seen (and I have no idea how it should/could be done) is a focusable light, from flood to space-needle with the flick of a bezel, a bit like the UA2 from SureFire would have been?

Why AA?
It's larger than a CR123, has less energy, has shorter shell life, is heavier per mAh and a little bit easier available in developing countries. I really don't understand high-end AA lights since 123's have become cheap.
I know a lot of people like AA lights, there are many, but I just never understood it.
