What is the brightest single celled light ever? So far I know it as the Super Baby Pin made by Mr Bulk which measures about 1500 lux. I am pretty sure that the brighter single cell lights are custom made. Is there a brighter one?

Do you want to refine your question to "brightest single CR123 light"?

A light driven by a big fat Pila 168A qualifies as a single cell light, but maybe not what you had in mind.

Yeah, I was going to mention my car headlights, but maybe they aren't exactly what you had in mind ...

My Thor 10,000,000Cp runs on one 7AH 12Vdc battery!

A 12v car battery is not single cell, though. It has 6 lead-acid cells. I don't think there is any battery chemistry that provides 12 volts from one cell.

Hmm lionheart is an obvious one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Its just that it will probably eat my wallet when I get the chance to buy one. How about the HDS lights? I havent read any reviews on the HDS lights, but maybe they would qualify as one of the brightest 1x123 lights around.

I evaluated the HDS EDC Ultimate 60, and measured a peak intensity of 1,213,000mcd.
I am not equipped to measure light in lumens (you need an instrument called an "integrating sphere" to do that).

whoa.... Pretty bright for a light produced for the market. But that still doesnt beat any of the brightest custom lights around CPF.

I bet one could be built.
Take one of those 3" heads that fit Mags and cut down a 2C Mag to fit a single Pila or CR123A. Mix in a U__J Luxeon III and resistor drive (Pila) or BB1000 for entertainment. It would not be small...it sure would be bright!

Perhaps my McLux PR-T. It has an 'X' bin LED driven by one rechargeable 123. I haven't seen anything brighter than this on one 123 (rechargeable).

Re: What is the brightest single celled light ever

When I get back from Maui,
I want to see what I can get from a NG2x2 1000 and a 45 mm reflector on a single CR123. I would guess that a mag reflector or large Carley with a LuxIII driven at 1 amp would take the lux honors though.

if you build a light storing the enerygy in a capacitor and charge that with a single cr123 does it still count

I'm guessing that could be a good self defence light

The brightest ... hasn't been built yet and will never be, as there will always be a better one after that and so on ...
