what is the brightest AAA LED torch ?

Keep in mind that AAA flashlights are a poor choice if you want high output. AAA cells are too weedy to drive powerful emitters for a long time.
 
I have the lod q4 and the a1 and in my case the lod q4 is brighter with normal alkalines aswell as with my ultrafire 10440 cells (used a smal piece of alluminium foil to get the + contact in the a1) though the a1 on 10440`s is pretty bright!

What does it mean? is the A1 brighter with 10440 batteries ?

10440 is a AAA sized 3.6V Li-ion cell, which overdrives a Tiablo A1 or Fenix L0D beyond it's specified operating voltage range. This results in much more light output, most probably a very high rate of LED degradation, and possibly catastrophic failure of the LED and/or electronic drive circuitry. Oh, and will likely void your warranty as well.

Note, some might argue that Fenix is rated for 3.3V max and will likely drop the 10440 cell's terminal voltage to 3.3V or less very quickly once loaded. The choice is yours. If you want to risk breaking it for a few extra photons, that's fine. What bugs me is a general cultural acceptance on CPF of exceeding operating specifications of devices with the expectations that "they can take it" just because it appears to be working at the moment.

Let's get technical though guys, a 10440 is not a AAA and it says brightest AAA light, which in my opinion is different than brightest 10440 capable AAA light on a 10440.

oh definitly! The Peak Eiger #8 on a 10440 is a monster.

I don't think so. I have a ITP A3 EOS, which is the same light engine:

The 1 meter throw lux readings I just got with my Amprobe LM631A, using the same 10440 battery in both lights, and measuring three times swapping the battery between them and averaging the results:

LD01................2113 lux
ITP A3 EOS.......1904 lux

Ceiling bounce:

LD01................112 lux
ITP A3 EOS........98 lux

I have a Maratac on the way, when it gets here I'll reconfirm these numbers with it, in case the highest mode on the ITP is lower; all the research I've done so far indicates that it is not, however.
