I'm looking to play with making a single cell powered torch, It'd be nice if it was able to run of alkaline or lithium (so .8-4.1v input range) but I'd settle for lithium only in a pinch.
I'm hoping to drive either a 1 or a 3W LED from it if I can.
Just to make life interesting I'd like to be able to vary the brightness from a micro controller, so either an I2C input or analog voltage input would be helpful too.
I've seen some nice buck/boost converters from TI that seem to do the job but i'm curious as to what you guys would recommend, and whats been proven in the field.
