What rechargable cells/charger for Surefire 6P with Cree drop in?

I have a Surefire 6P with a DX Cree drop in ordered, however I'm just about out of CR123A cells and figure this might be as good as time as any to get some rechargables. The problem is reading the threads on here about batteries/has left me more confused than anything, especially in regards to safety concerns with the lion cells and exploding.

Are there any rechargable 123A cells assembled into battery packs, or similar devices that will fit my light?

What charger should I look at?

What is the best value/performance in cells?

I really don't cycle my batteries enough to justify spending a lot, but on the flip side it's a pain to order new CR123A cells every few months.

Check out in the Dealers section the AW battery sales section. He sells protected rechargable Lion batteries. His batteries are generally the best rated, and he is very reliable. The WF-139 charger with spacers is the cheapest Lion charger that is dual channel. The caution is to remove the batteries when the light turns green. On the 6v Drop-in you can use 1 18650, or 2 cr123as. I use either, and both. there is much discusion on the safety of Lions so read the somtimes contentious posts.

For a straight drop in Li-Ion cell, you want a single 17670 battery. Unfortunately AW shows his protected ones out of stock at atm.
:awman:

You can also use 2 RCR123's of either the 3.0V or 3.7V variety with that cree drop-in.

With the 17670, wouldn't I be running the flashlight at nearly half the voltage of the two CR123A cells?

My mistake, I checked my 6P and it is a 17670. I have used it with both The 1760 and 2 CR123as. It is slightly brighter, but not significantly. The 17670 and 2 Cr123s have about equal mah. lighthound.com also sells AW batteries. Their CR123s are AW's old model. The new ones are black with better ability to take high current draw. It looks like they carry the new protected AW 17670 and the Ultrafire chargers.
