ok, im looking to buy my first rechargeable batteries and a good smart charger, but cant decide between nimh or li-ion. ive read allot on both and am leaning tword li-ion because they dont loose there charge when being stored. also can anyone advise me on a good charger, i use 123s, AA, AAA and plan on getting something that uses 18650, so i guess ill have to buy a charger for each of those different sizes? any help would be appreciated................................oh ya should i buy a tester? p.s alot of people here suggest aw brand rechargeables and only see them in li-ion do thy make nimh? ...............man i think i asked too many questions:ohgeez:

you didnt read about eneloops then? and kodak precharge, gp recyko, powerex imedion etc etc etc

they dont lose much charge while sitting around!

as for a charger for AAA and AA's most people seem to recommend the Maha MH-C9000

try searching for the eneloops etc lots of info..

Thanks

Steve

If you are using AA, AAA, etc. you cannot use li-ion because the voltage is 3x higher than Nimh. Look for LSD (low self discharge) nimh cells and there will be little discharge compared to normal nimh.

You need to know what voltages your lights can handle. 14500's are the equivalent size of AA's but as spencer pointed out Li-ons are much higher voltages. If you were to put 2 14500's (8 volts) in a light that takes 2 AA's (3 volts) you will fry your emitter if it is not designed to take the higher voltage. Low self discharge nimh like eneloops are a good choice as 5teve pointed out. Using Li-ons requires more care than nimh. A good charger and multimeter are necessities IMO for their safe use. Check out the battery section and welcome mat for some good info.

ok so i guess i dont know as much as i though i did, ill do more research . i wonder how long it well take me to learn all about batteries , maybe ill get some this decade  , then the charger, then the tester. :working:

Might help us make recommendations if you mention what devices the batteries are intended to go in. Different devices are better suited to different types of batteries.
