What role for the E2 ?

I received my E2 several weeks ago and immediately understood that it represented a different "beam philosophy" than the 6P (which I also have). To my mind, the 6P is a good compromise between a highly focussed light and a general area light. The E2carries the "area light" idea further; in fact it reminds me of an led's wide, even throw pattern. The other extreme is the turbohead, and the closest compromise to that is the Asp Taclite (on tightest focus). I own all three lights, and the light I carry on my belt these days is the Asp, because of its remarkable beam.If the E2 had a longer burn time I'd carry that also, as my area light. Instead, I carry the Inova 5X LED light, the brightest LED light of its size on the market. Even though I really love my E2, I'm not sure what I would use it for at this point. When the Arc LS comes out, it will reside on my belt next to the Asp, and that will be the ideal combination of focussed power, long burn, small size and wide area. What role is left for the E2? I'm really not sure.

"What role for the E2?"

I consider the E2 & a Photon LED ideal for most everyday situations. If I need more light or longer range illumination, I'll use a larger SureFire such as the M2 or M3T etc.

Carrying a combination of lights is good, and different combinations will suit different people.

The role of the E2 for me, has not changed.

brightnorm, could you quantify the differences between the E2 you have, and the 6P (specifying the lamp used for 6P).
That is, the diameter of the hotspot and surround beams at maybe 3 feet and 20' ?

I'm interested in what you say because my E2 is perfect in it's beam distribution ......

Lightlover,

I'm trying to measure the beams as you asked.
It's difficult because I don't have an unbroken surface expanse 20' away from any other point. Also, the beams from both the 6P and especially the E2 are remarkably smooth. At 20' the 6P's hotspot seems to be, very roughly 24" - 30". That's approximate.
The E2's hotspot is almost impossible to measure because it's extremely diffuse; it's almost as though it doesn't have a real hotspot. My best estimate would be approximately 40". At 3' the 6P is approximately 6", the E2 Approx. 10"+. If I was determined to do this right I'd make targets, or some sort of delineations that I could aim lights at. Maybe I will....?
By the way, I think the beam pattern of the E2 is absolutely perfect, as long as your need is for an excellent area light, with only a very subtle hotspot,at most. Rather than a light like the Asp Taclite which is almost like a modified Turbo head.

That's the best I can do with your questions. Hope it's useful.

Regards,
