What suggestions/expectations do you have for the next gen L1?

First of all, as far as I know there is no news of a next gen L1, but I imagine eventually surefire will upgrade this wonderful light.

What suggestions or expectations do you have in the next L1?

I would say ... figure out a way to move to remove the resistor to get a longer low runtime but keep the 2 stage pressure activation.

I also think the 65 lumens is plenty ... but would like a longer runtime.

I hesitant to say I'd want it smaller for its a bit large for a single cell but it fits the hand perfectly.

Definitely leave the lanyard too!

Don't hold your breath about any changes. SureFire about a year ago improved the L1 with the Cree emitter, but isn't real quick to make changes their lights.

I can't think of any changes that should/could/would happen in the next few years, as the last update was fairly recent (and made it a spectacular light).

In terms of long-term, far-off changes, I'd like to see it become focusable. This is, of course, something that would come long after the UA2 has been perfected, tested and accepted by the market (let alone simply released to the market). But in the far-off future, I could see SF making other lights (hopefully including the L1) focusable.

 um... you might be waiting a while for any change.

I'm happy with the L1 and wouldn't change anything about it. It throws great, produces more lumens than is claimed and had a great switch and pocket clip. Perfect as a single cell light.

I'd make the low much lower. Might even add it onto the current version so that the switch becomes three-stage. The current low makes a good primary setting; I'd leave the high the way it is. Body is fine; looks good, feels better, never designed to be the smallest single-cell light out there... just the most useful.

A lower Low. Perhaps 5 lumens?

A higher High. 100 lumens, if possible.

Leave the length alone since many 1 cell lights use a bezel down clip already. With the length of the current L1, the bezel up clip still works in a pocket since the barrel of the light is long enough for the clip position to be pragmatic.

I wish Surefire would use the type of lanyard attachment found on PentagonLight models. (As in, vertical; instead of horizontal). That way the lanyard hole is flush alongside the tailcap.... rather than sticking out from it. But I know that's not happening.

And is HAIII black really too much to ask for? While I love all of my Surefire lights, especially my L4; O.D. Green is ugly! I'm sorry, but it really is. I've seen black E1E, E2E, and L4 models. All of them look better in black! At least I have my E2D. No need to try to track down a special black version of that model.

I have a newer (Cree) L1... and I love the switch, love the new shorter body, but there are a couple of things that I wish Surefire would improve:

1) IMHO, the current head is too long. It pokes me in the side when I'm sitting down, and it tends to snag on things. It's gotten hung up on the seatbelt in my truck a few times... once so bad that the pocket clip unbent! I never had this problem with my E2e or L4. Not a huge deal, just annoying.

2) PLEASE make the L1 with a reflector! The current optic has more spill than the previous TIR optic... but it is still barely usable for walking at night. MilkySpit's modded L1s are super-popular for a reason!

#1 change: go back to a lower low. 3 lumens, no more, in my opinion. For dark-adapted eyes, even 5 can be too much - again, my opinion. 3 or 5 lumens would also extend the runtime on low, which would be a plus.

I personally like the optic over the reflector because I find the hard edge of the beam pattern of a reflector to be distracting when walking outside. I would halve the low to 5 lumens, but otherwise keep everything else the same. The only exception would be the focusability that others have mentioned, but only if it doesn't increase size.
