Customer has given me this light to upgrade.

Its a 6v 8 watt halogen. Uses a 6v lantern style battery but has a charging socket on the back.
Lens is quite thick and is convex glass.
While the body is aluminium it is cast so I am unsure how to achieve a good thermal path to it. So power may have to be kept relatively low.

Lets hear your suggestions.

Chuck it up in a lathe and cut a nice rabbet where you can (thermal) epoxy an aluminum ring. Thread holes in the ring so you can screw a heatsink plate to it. Pack as many XMLs on the plate as will fit, each with its own Ahorton aspheric.

An alternative (but not as good) to chucking the light in the lathe would be to cut the edge of the ring to a shape that fits snugly against the body, then epoxy it in.

I'm guessing nobody makes a large aspheric with short enough focal length to put a single SST-90 or CSM-360 in there. DX have some big ones, but I'd guess they are around f1.0, where Ahorton's seem to be more like f0.2 ( think that terminology is correct).
