I think this has come up before, but i'll ask anyways.
Anyone got one of these or any info on the Nightstar single L.E.D. flashlight. http://www.nightstar1.com/features.asp

I understand it aint the brightest but I think for emergencies could be just the ticket.

You're just in time! I did a review about 2 weeks ago on this light. Click the graphic in my "signature" (below) to go to my site and click the "Reviews" link on the home page. - look for A.I.T Nightstar.

This should be easier: Here's a direct link: http://thelightsite.tripod.com/reviews/nightstar.htm

I got the Nightstar a few years ago, and it's a-workin' still...I think the internal magnet bounces off of springs at each end, though, not magnets..? Takes the right touch to get a rhythm going in the shake, to get to 3 inversions a second..needed a little lube on the switch once, it was really balky, aside from that it's been fine.

The beam pic in the review is the best I could do. I don't have an infinity to compare to.

The Arc LS (EDIT: whoops! I meant "LE" not LS) in the comparison photo is brighter than most single LED lights, though, as it uses a 6800 mcd LED, not the normal 5400 mcd.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for your input, Quickbeam your review was great.
I was surprised at the size of this thing, it rules it out for me because of this, I don't know what I expected but from the initial pictures I saw I expected it to be very small like say the size of a Ultra Krill lamp.
Quickbeam you haven't got a review of a krill lamp by any chance up your sleeve.

Thanks guys Deano

Judging from the your photos, I'd say it's a bit dimmer then an Infinity. Maybe like a photon 3 in medium mode or so which is slightly dimmer then my Infinity.

Deano, you were hoping it would be small enough to put in to a pocket? It would really not be too difficult to scale down the NightStar, and I'm surprised that they haven't done it. There would be some limiting factors, of course, such as the size of the capacitor, switch, and LED. And also a comfortable travel distance. If the flashlight were too short, you would have to shake it very fast because the magnets would be bouncing off the ends in no time.

Perhaps a better emergency light solution would be the hand-cranked lights. It would be a retro-fit operation. Try searching for "Russian" or "Hand Crank".

That's why I sometimes pronounce my first name DUH-G.

Yes, I meant the LE not the LS. Thanks! - I updated the original post.

Nope, but I have a link to one! It's rather lengthy: http://www.equipped.org/krill.htm
