As a patriotic US citizen, I can't advocate sending money to the CCP/PRC/PLA, our nation's enemy that is at war with us. My best friend, an Extra Class ham, and a wounded Vietnam War combat vet, who should know better, buys a lot of PRC-made radios. He gave me a Baofeng UV5R. I accepted it as a courtesy to him. It's a part 90 type that he programmed with ham and public safety freqs. I don't use it.
Hate admitting this, but despite a lack of quality, (definitely don't even remotely get it wet) it's the single most popular radio of its kind in America. For emergency communications, it would definitely come in handy. Think of it this way, soldiers during WW2 watched training films in which they were taught how to use captured German and Japanese weapons.... Just in case their issued rifles ran out of ammo but they could pick up weapons off of dead enemy soldiers. Those films definitely not available to the public back then. But nowadays can be found on YouTube.

Same concept. Only in this case, enemy equipment instead of enemy weapons. Especially with a radio that popular.

I'll be happy to pick them up from dead enemies.

One side benefit of the UV-5R is they can be unlocked for a wider range of frequencies. I have a yellow one specifically programmed with FRS, GMRS, MURS, and several marine frequencies. While the stock antenna may be marginally useful oitside the amateur 2m/ 70cm frequencies, it's easily replaceable. Yes, I know it's not FCC certified to transmit on these frequencies, but listening to gather info is perfectly fine and probably as if not more important than transmitting from a prepping perspective in my opinion.

The YouTube vids on manually programming the UV-5R are a super helpful, it not hard after you do it a few times.
without those 'vids' it could be tough depending on expertise

It sounds too scary to read.
Yeah, it is scary. But the threat is real, and the book really gives you an idea of the aftermath, and how to cope (or not). Read this book, and your prepping will have a paradigm shift. Kind of makes global climate change look like weak tea.

It's definitely worth a read.
Groups doing things to America is far more real of a threat than Planetary Climate Change. Earth goes through cycles of hot and cold without destroying itself. But those with an agenda to push like to pretend otherwise.

In the 1970s, you had individuals screaming about the coming of the 2nd Ice-Age. Well, Mother Nature refused to cooperate. Leaders of the movement stayed silent for about a decade. Came back in the 1990s, screaming about Global Warming! Cut to a little more than a decade later, we get some of the coldest winters on record, around the world. Oops! _Real_ scientists would acknowledge that their conclusions were incorrect, and move on. Not these guys! They simply changed the name of their movement, again. Now it's Climate Change. Yeah, they simply changed the vocabulary to make it all inclusive now.

Amazing these professional liars are allowed air-time to spew their nonsense and vomit. Then again, it's definitely a Left-leaning movement. So perhaps not so amazing after all that the main stream media takes them seriously. No one who knows the origins of the movement could do that without deceiving themselves.

OK, I'll see if my audio library has it. I haven't been doing too much reading lately, I have a floater in my eye that blocks 30% of my vision 35% of the time, that is annoying. I'm soon to be scheduled to have it removed. I do have a 25 minute commute to the office 4 times a week, that I could listen to it, the book if it is available.

Here's proof that Denialism is real.

At one time, my state was at the bottom of an ocean. We have lots of limestone that once were sea creatures. Deposits of salt from the sea water as it dried up. So, I will not be surprised if this land becomes ocean bottom again. Maybe I should start making an ark. Now, how big is a cubit?

In reference to Noah's arc:

How big was a biblical cubit?

Eerdman's Dictionary of the Bible [7, page 1373] states "… archeology and literature suggests an average length for the common cubit of 44.5 cm (17.5 in.)." This citation also gives a range of 42–48 cm (17–19 in) for the cubit.

You might send a memo to Mr. Cosby about that...
