What watch you're wearing?

Cool, rainy day 1990's watch from Japan.

Well that's quite a story.

Ali Express won't deliver here so I can't order from them. My part of the world is a bit of a black hole as far as deliveries are concerned. I might be able to cheat but I'll have to try it on something quite cheap to see.

Amazon UK sells them but the negative feedback was disturbing (12% of 1 star ratings for one watch). Given your comments about good quality (which I believe), I feared that they might not be kosher. Having said that, I did order an Invicta watch (model 26970) from Amazon and was completely satisfied.

So I ordered from "Paganidesignwatches". It all went well until the tracker told me that the watch had been "returned to sender". I immediately emailed them and asked for my money back. Both emails (hotmail and gmail) bounced back with the message that the email address did not exist. I contacted my credit card company and will have to wait and see if I get any joy.

All this is a shame as the watches you have shown us on CPF are all good looking designs. Including the one above.

I won't give up trying.
I should clarify what I have learned since my earlier post. Firstly, I did get a successful purchase from AliExpress. It was just a case of changing the address format. I just received a Corgeut (homage of the Omega Railmaster). Photos later.

I have also learned more about "Paganidesignwatch". I ordered a Pagani from Paganidesignwatch.co and this is where my watch and money have so far disappeared. In frustration I emailed Paganidesignwatch. Com and received a quick and courteous reply. Trouble is that they are not related despite both coming from China. Emails to PDW.Co either don't exist or are ignored. I'll keep trying. Hopefully my cc company will pay up. More info as I learn more.

Yeah, don't waste your time with that company. Contact your credit card provider and do an immediate credit card charge-back. Only way you'll get your money back.

I can't compete with your collection but here's my Mambo watch bought from a surf shop about 30 years ago. I have no idea who actually manufactured these.
Nice watch. Is it a hand wind?

Back in the day Mambo competed with brands like Stussy and Vision Street Wear in Australlia. Billabong was around but didn't have the flamboyant styles like those three did with loud Hawaiian prints and bold colors.

The watch may have been produced by Orient or Seiko, maybe Citizen but since there's no numbers or letters on the bottom area of the dial it's not obvious who made it. The case back may show some clues too.

Its not a hand wind. Its a quartz - on the back it says "Japan Movement" but no other clues. Its very accurate to within a few seconds a month. I personally love the electric blue face.

Here's a photo of the Corgeut I just received from AliExpress. This is a self winder and I'll check the accuracy over the next few weeks. Funnily enough, the bracelet was huge when I got it. Normally I need to take out 3 or 4 links to fit my 17 ish cm wrist, but on this one I had to take out 5 full links plus one half link. The edge of the bracelet was a little sharp but a quick go with a small sharpener sorted that out.

Charlie Brown and checkers
A 2023 Charlie Brown Timex Marlin on a heavy stainless beads of rice bracelet. Checkered Vans ultra-cush slip on shoes.

Double depolyment clasp, nice and loose like a nickel and dime drug dealer wears.

Went to a doctor appointment and stepped on the scale. I said "hang on", took off my watch and iPhone pro max from my pocket and weighed almost 2 pounds less.

Not Charlie Brown I know but here's my Timex Weekenders. I have a variety of NATO straps that I change out from time to time. I can't compete on the Checkers shoes. According to my grand daughter's class mates, my shoes are "boring".

Had a Casio Pathfinder for years. Solar rechargeable battery and it still works!

Now, as in this week, I just broke down and bought an Apple Watch Ultra 2. My wife has had an Apple Watch for years but I just never really wanted one bad enough until now. Wanted the Ultra for the long battery life.

PS - Although the Timex watches were quite cheap, I admire their simple honesty.
I have several modern Timex watches. They're a good value. I don't expect they'll still run in 50 years but it's pretty doubtful I'll be around then to know.

My first checkered shoes were canvas Nike's with the swoop torn off and little squares drawn with permanent marker in about 1978. The classmates back then thought it was stupid until Vans started selling them in surf shops in 1980. Now, it wasn't my idea. I saw a photo of skateboarder Steve Alba with his white Converse All Star's covered with yellow checkers.
