What watch you're wearing?

… maybe when they get a totally independent watch that can answer calls maybe I'll get one, but I have all my vital information in the phone too so the watch would have to have a good size flash drive built in.
As another user said, there are watches that can take phone calls independently. I own a generation 4 Apple Watch (generation 10 just came out) and it's still going strong after 6 years. It has a cellular option and phone calls to my cell phone number ring the watch too. I've left my phone at home and went on jog/runs with the watch only and it functions like a mini phone and can track my fitness progress too.

They can also sense hard falls and motor vehicle accidents and call your emergency contacts if these events should happen.

Hi,

Interesting story.

I can tell the time on my cell phone in roughly two seconds because of the way I carry my phone. I don't even have to take it out of my pocket I just tilt it forward and double tap the screen and the time comes up. I've been doing it that way for years now.

But the other thing is I always hated wearing a watch because it's a lot just for telling the time. I have to strap it on my wrist, then take it off when I go to bed. I've always hated that. I don't like any jewelry either so that's part of it.

Even if it was not that easy to see the time though I would still not wear the watch since I always have the time on the phone, and never have to check to see if it ran fast or slow over several months.

I guess I could say it's convenient enough for me to use the phone. I have to carry the phone with me anyway.
They have watches that bluetooth to your phone so you don't have to take the phone out to answer a call, but maybe when they get a totally independent watch that can answer calls maybe I'll get one, but I have all my vital information in the phone too so the watch would have to have a good size flash drive built in.
Fair enough if you've found a system that lets you tell the time in about two seconds.

But honestly, a lot just for telling the time with a wrist-watch? Yes, you have to put it on, and take it off. Realistically, very few people would consider that to be a whole heck of a lot.

Nowadays nobody really needs a watch. But they are a convenient way to tell the time that looks good. I don't think it's by accident that a lot of watches are sold in jewellery stores.
Sometimes just looking at the miniature piece of engineering on my wrist makes me feel happy.

My last watch purchase has a nice open display back.
Nothing too fancy. But, for lack of a better term, you can see its heart beating. Always brings a smile to my face.

Also I need my watches.... To cover up my naked wrist. Not trying to be scandalous!

There was a time I would not wear a watch because my pager had a clock on it. But it wasn't because it was too much hassle to put on, take off, keep set and all that. I just didn't want the tan line. No kidding. Never mind my tan ended at the t-shirt borders, with legs as white as copy paper. At list my wrist didn't have a stripe. 👍

Yes @Toulouse42 we tend to say thrift store but charity store makes sense too as that is often where the money goes.
Yeah I forgot to mention I never did find a watch band I really liked much.

They've had them for a couple of generations now. Samsung GW4 and above and at least the last two gens of Apple watch are available w/ cellular connections, esim, and their own phone numbers. They Bluetooth as well, but if Bluetooth sees your watch as active but away from your phone, it forwards phone calls automatically to the watch. This way if you go out and forget the phone, or just choose not to take the phone with, you can take calls on the watch seamlessly without worry. It just happens.

Plenty of storage on the newest models as well. All synced to your acct, whoever you have it with.

I used a smartwatch for a couple of years, really tried to be satisfied with it because they do offer some quite nice functionality. Went back to proper watches though. Smartwatches just could never scratch the itch.

I'm often in settings where taking a peek at the time w/o being rude is paramount. A wristwatch is really still the only way to accomplish this surreptitiously.
Yes good point. I just pretend I got a text :)
Actually it looks like I just tilted something in my pocket so not sure if anyone would realize I was checking my phone for anything.

Sounds good. I already have so many things to charge now though. I'll have to take a new look at them.

Well these kinds of things are personal as to taste and preferences. We all have our own way of doing things.
To know for sure how many people don't want to wear a watch for whatever reason we'd have to sponsor a national poll or something. It's not worth it. Whatever you like you do, whatever I like I do, it's as simple as that.
For me I have to run out quickly sometimes so even putting on a watch can be a time waster, especially with a less than optimal watch band. I did have one band one time I did not mind too much it was a Velcro closure. Pretty fast to get on and off.

But this is really just about personal preferences. If we lived on an island with 100 people and only 2 did not want to wear a watch, who cares. But on the other hand, if you want to buy me a decent brand new watch I'll be happy to wear it :)
(just kidding).

I see hope for this one to someday be a wrist watch wearer.
