What watch you're wearing?

I see hope for this one to someday be a wrist watch wearer.

Actually you might be right, I've thought about it from time to time since I started looking at the smart watches. If the good ones were cheaper I would probably get one, but I would want one that works well I can't put up with any more devices that only work half way. So many problems with so many devices these days.

I'm the type of guy who legit would have sent you one, just to picture the shocked/surprised look on your face when you opened your mail. My CPF inbox is open to all members. If you change your mind, drop me a PM. (Not Kidding.) :giggle:
Hi,

Wow, that is very, very generous of you really, and you are not far from me one state over (New Jersey, and I admit to that residence with a sad heart ha ha). I would not want to put you through that though it's not easy to buy something and send it to someone through the mail system. I really do appreciate that sentiment though and I sometimes do that too when someone really needs something. Nice to see people like you and me in this crazy world.
Thanks much :)

Hello again,

I am starting to see now that there are "flashlight" people and there are "watch" people, and we all like our devices whatever they might be. I am more of a "flashlight" person for various reasons, the most important is I have a genuine need for them. I don't say that I will never wear a watch again but right now it's not needed and I have to get a couple other things that I need that are more important to everyday life. I am going to take another look at the newer smart watches though it's been a while now.
I wonder if they make an EKG watch that works well. It has to work well though this is for important health reasons. I'd probably jump pretty quick at that.

Here's a question for some of you. I don't wear leather straps; not for over 40 years. I like steel bracelets and also I sometimes wear NATO straps. As a younger man, I found leather got rather sweaty and perished surprisingly fast. Maybe it was cheap rubbish. Mind you in those days I only owned one watch.

Any thoughts or preferences?

In summer I prefer not to wear a watch on a leather band for the same reason @Toulouse42. Yet sometimes I do. I have the bracelets adjusted for summer wrist swell so a number of them are too big in winter when the summer heat does not cause my wrist to sell.

I don't dislike a NATO or a silicone/rubber strap I just choose not to put any on my watch(es).

Honestly, metal bracelets seem to weight my wrists down. I do prefer leather or nylon straps. I do like velcro closure straps. But good ones can be hard to find.

Bracelets all the way.
I have a box full of various leather, NATO, Zulu, tropic, etc. Sometimes I even throw one on a watch and wear it around a bit, but before long back on the bracelet it goes. Often even by the end of the same day.
No real reason other than simple preference.

Stainless steel for me - or I guess Ti if one prefers (it's also very inert).

I do have a black resin Casio or two w/ some sort of rubber-like resin band (which I broke), which I wore at my most recent work (industrial) to help me keep a low profile and the plant safety staff off my back. I didn't enjoy it, but I was also working in extreme temps and it didn't 'breathe'. Here in the desert, my watch bands need to 'breathe';-). BTW, for the record, I did instinctively take my watch off before working near any electrical potential, and in some cases mechanical, but I had to sneak and wear it under my FR-9 sleeves otherwise. I was constantly timing events w/ my chron. Honestly, a lot the value of my watch is about the chron even when not working. Once one begins using it in every situation where it is useful, they may find it becomes indispensable for them. If not today, as they age, they will;-)
EDIT: 1 typo

I hear ya. Fortunately both my favorite Seiko stainless ones of the past, and my current Casio substitutes were / are pretty quick & easy to do a +/-1 adjustment on. There's no DST here, so I guess it gives me something to do twice a year;-)

Some of my vintage watches came from Japan. They tended to be around 6 to 6-1/2" around. The ones that still had the original bracelet. Finding links is harder than finding an honest politician. Some had optional leather straps when new and finding the correct one of those is a lot less difficult and expensive. I keep some of the bracelets that were too small (for the links) in case I find another like it later. Others I add a contemporary leather strap that looks cool on it.

Hi,

You talking about a watch band?
I like the Velcro closure type best because it's fast and secure, and the material is tough too.
I like that type of material for my pants belts too, the military type belts. The material is very strong and the belts last a good amount of time (not forever, but several years) and they are not expensive.
Leather belts, forget it, I gave up on those years ago. I only use leather for knife sheaths.

I guess you checked the internet pretty thoroughly. Did you think of Etsy? They seem to have a ton of links (https://www.etsy.com/market/seiko_end_links). Some of the online sales of links elsewhere can get pretty pricey for some "High end" brands. Good luck with your search. I find your Seiko collection very interesting.

I love leather straps on watches... and bracelets are nice too. I wear both... but more often, leather. I even have some divers on leather, as they never see a drop of water and I love the look/feel.

I change what watch I wear every day or two. Today's watch is:

And, I wore this one for a short mountain bike ride this afternoon. I don't like to subject my non-G-Shock watches to the vibrations of off-road biking.

The high resolution MIP display in this G-Shock GBX100NS-1 is stunningly great.

I am a big fan of Long Island Watch and their house brand is known as Islander. The owner is a class act and has a good eye for nice watches. Today I have a full lume dial Islander that is a homage to the Seiko Monster style case. One of my favorites and is a solid watch for an affordable beater.

OMG, OMG, OMG, I see somebody likes watches a REAL lot :)

I looked into that option at one point for my Lordmatic collection. The linen dial one stopped working after I had found a matching stock bracelet and added links to the stock one. Then the brown sunburst dial one began running very slow. So both of those await a visit to the watch doctor.
My blue dial (from member @KITROBASKIN) works fine and the stock bracelet fits.

The sportmatic collection all came attached to leather except for the seahorse that has a stretch band. Being they were originally entry level watches when new I think being on a leather strap is pretty much correct looking. I even tried a bracelet on a couple but preferred the look of the leather strap.

I did replace the leather strap on a Seiko 5 from the 80's with a Seiko bracelet. It's a blue dial that looks a lot like the non working kinetic I have so I put the kinetic bracelet on it and liked the way it looks.

The 5 now has a bracelet. The Lordmatic is stock

The middle one was acquired for links to the left one.
But then the left one stopped working.

To me these didn't look right on a bracelet.

Whatever they are on, they look great. Such a good theme for a collection.

I tend to think in terms of the social scale a watch was made for, and consider the era it was made. Most of my watches are "peasants" grade from the 60's and 70's when stretch bands and black leather were popular.
