What watch you're wearing?

Really liking this square. However, the stock band is stiff and buckle spacing forces a too-tight or too-loose wear. Just swapped to my first NATO band and it felt clunky at first, but now very comfortable.

The signal receiver for the atomic clock synchronization is interesting. It automatically attempts to sync between midnight and 5 AM every night. I can leave it face-out at the window (per manual instructions) and it’ll be a 50/50 hit/miss to acquire the sync. But I can also leave it on my nightstand or even wear it overnight, well away from the window and it’ll successfully synchronize.

Keeping time w/ the venerable Dagaz Cav-1 today. A take on the Benrus Type II Vietnam-era military issue. Incredibly legible at a glance.
I think Marathon have gone back to making that model in steel. For the longest time, the synthetic cases was all they sold. Snagged a tan version quite a few years back when that one went on sale, on a certain website.

I actually kinda like the poly quartz Marathon Navigators. They have their place. Light and handy.
But good Lord, Marathon autos are soup bowls. Rehauts like the great wall of Canada.

True. Though Marathon is one of those truly rare brands that can claim an actual Military tool watch history.

A lot of their other models are built like absolute tanks!

1976 King Quartz, very nice bykfixer.

Merry Christmas all 🎄
My new focus is on the mid 70's Seiko quartz watches celebrated by a wealthy Japanese sector and hated by the rest of the planet. Instead of a watch being accurate within a few seconds per day they were accurate to an astounding few seconds a month. The King Quartz arrived mid-day Christmas eve set to the same time as my celphone except it was a day forward. It was around 2:30 pm when I unboxed it.

I pulled and twisted the crown to see if the matching time was Am or Pm. It was Pm. It hacks too. I corrected the date to Tuesday and opted for the Kanji option. After that I set out to see how accurate it may be. The second hand was at the 2 when my celphone clock advanced to the next minute. A few hours later same thing. "Hmmmm, this thing might be pretty accurate" I thought but didn't dwell on it.

At 6am on Christmas morning I checked again and the second hand hit the 2 at the same time the minute advanced on my celphone. Neeeeeeat! Just a little while ago I checked it again. Some 34 hours later it still matches. And by then Seiko was making some fairly solid bracelets so the mid 70's watches can easily be found all original. Some still have the original leather optioned straps but those are the higher priced pristine examples. Yet even those are fairly inexpensive.

I may splurge in 2025 and go for a twin quartz version where instead of accuracy at a boring 5 seconds per month those are accurate at as little as 1 SECOND PER YEAR for the cream of the crop but 5 to 10 seconds per year for the pedestrian versions. Much like the early Maglite, the thing that killed these old watches the most was a leaking battery.

Have to say that 70’s Seiko are a favourite of mine, quartz and auto, but particularly the quartz.
I’ll be looking forward to pics (stories) of your collection with your new focus, bykfixer.

Today I went with an old favorite from Spinnaker. A small microbrand that puts out some decent affordable options. I have several automatics from Spinnaker and this is the only meca quartz I have from their Hull series of watches. I am a sucker for anything military themed and this olive green dial just got me. For about $250 this is a decent daily beater watch.

Caught the Kanji on the change over.
Happy New Year all.
Yeah that’s right, I’m such a party animal that I’m taking photos of the day changing on my watch on NYE.
