I've been looking for a good EDC torch to replace my Zebralight SC30W. I don't like it's size, mode changing and sometimes temperamental attitude (It sometimes wont change modes properly). Ideally I'd like a torch that's a bit longer so that it's easier to hold, this one just seems a little short for me.

A light with a simple user interface would be good, I like the Surefire E2L with the two modes and simple, quick interface. Not sure what to think of the 60l max output and price though. I've had a Fenix P3D and did think that was a very nice light, pity I sold it.

I'll be using it for just general use around the house, going for walks at night and outdoors trips where I'd like a very reliable light. Something with a good battery life would be welcomed.

What do you think? I've not been keeping up with this for a while (My addiction to knives and new found love for Benchmade has been a problem for this).

First of all I too am a Benchmade Lover. I own over 8 of their knives and enjoy each and every one. I actually started out with knives then I switched over to flashlights!

Anyway, I have been using a Nitecore EX10 R2 with the old UI, which had the ramping and the quick to high and quick to low, which was a pretty simple interface, that worked out great for me. Since then they have a new UI. There is also the quark mini 123 or AA. Nitecore EZ AA or 123... just to name a few.

I recommended this to another member yesterday, and I believe it will fit your situation as well. The ITP SC1 is a great size for EDC being about 3/4" longer than your old SC30w. It has dead flat regulation on all modes and will out throw the SC30w by a ton while maintaining the same overall lumen output. Best part is it can be has for $30 less than the SC30 and is programmable. I too was intrigued by the SC30 for a while, but its price point and Lux figures per Selfbuilt's review made the SC1 look like a much better option for the money. Since you didn't really specify throw or flood (though I'll assume flood though since its for night time walks) I'll also recommend the Jet I Pro V3 R2. Fantastic thrower for its size. Well suited for everyday carry. Sick output on 14500 and very respectable on Eneloops. Also near perfect regulation and programmable. You may want to stick with 123 sized cells though, since you apprently already have them. Budget options will of course include the Romisen lineup and currently the RC-N3 R4 appears to be the best of that bunch. Great little light, (I owned the Q5 a while ago) with the option of using AA's as well. There are much more expensive options as well, such as the Ra lights, but them seem to be well worth the coin since they are possibly the most durable flashlights in production (flame suit on for the SF lovers). Of course you could always go the custom route (ie download, sabrewolf). There are plenty more to choose from of course, Those are just a small sample. Happy hunting.

Take a look at this:- New Jetbeam BK135A, there is a thread running with pics and I put on the users instructions in the post the other night.

A very very very small light is coming up. :naughty:

My first foray into the EDC world will be coming out shortly. Doesn't really help you right now though. Have you looked into the HDS lights?

im surprised nobody mentioned it sooner. HDS Ra clicky, or their Ra twisty. you seem to value quality since you like benchmade. HDS definitely has that, with great customer support. or you can alway go for a surefire E1B or E1L. I currently EDC an E1E with a XP-G drop-in.:)

saabluster - cant wait to see what you have planned!

Keep in mind people the OP wants a light longer than a zebralight sc30w.

The size and simple ui of surefires e-series is hard to beat.

Notsofast, isn't everything longer than the SC30? Lol.

And just for the record Skyfire, see my earlier post for an Ra mention.....:nana:

I was a regular on bladeforums before I became a regular here. :) I still EDC my Benchmade 710 (M2 steel) that I got back in 2000.

For flashlights I like the 4sevens Quarks. I'm a fan of the new Cree XP-G LED.

Wow, so many replies. I didn't think I had any, there were no emails to say so. I must not have turned it on?

Thank you very much everyone! I'm trying to look at them all right now but the internets being a problem for me. I really, really like the Quarks, not sure why I've never looked at them. I know this is terrible, and means I'm probably sick, but I've picked four I'd like to buy:

Quark AA
Quark 123 2
Quark 123 2 Turbo
Quark Maelstrom

Crazy I know. Do I need them all? No, but they're all so very nice.

Thankfully my fiancé is fine with my horrible addiction, she usually goes looking for the best prices on everything for me. Not sure what to buy first, I'm also eyeing off the Benchmade 930 Kulgera, 940 Osborne and 745 Dejavoo mini.

Thanks everyone!
