whats the best place for HIGH power laser pointers?...i have read some kind of wierd things about wickedlasers...and laserglow.com seems high priced...just wondering where a good place is to get a high power laser pointer from someones experience...thanks

I have purchased 3 from ABELAND and can say that it was a pleasing experience. Both before the sale, because he actually answers the phone and returns messages. Also after the sale, all units were as promised with quick shipping. No hesitation in recommending this distributor!

ditto, i have purchased 2, have not been home to pick up the second one yet because of the blizzard we had last weekend. but i plan on going home this week to pick up my second greenie from abeland. also ordered 2 phoenix from wicked lasers, should receive them soon.

I have bought 4 Leadlights from Abeland1.com (Arnold Beland) and I couldnt be more pleased. He is very pleasant to speak to on the phone and I always receive my orders promptly. So far I have received two 14.4mW units, one 22.4mW and one AWESOME 53.2mW unit that I just got to try out yesterday. I would definatly recomend you call him. Be advised though, he will not sell to you unless he feels that you are a responsible individual. I can not blame him, especially now with all of the foolish acts being committed with laser pointers.
I also just purchased a Coherent Lasercheck laser power meter from another site so I can measure the power of some other units I purchased from various other sites.

no i do not have a laser meter, where can i get one? i am electronically challenged so those digital volmeters and green leds wont do anything for me.

do a google search for "Coherent Lasercheck" they run about $300-$320.

There is an analog meter (70mw max) on eBay at the moment here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=413&item=6148734814&rd=1
Can anyone vouch if these are accurate or not?

As far as higher power meters go there is the Coherent LaserCheck, Scientech 364 analog meter, and Scientech 365 digital meter. But I'm pretty sure they are expensive.

There are a few members here with laser meters that will check your devices for free if you pay postage. IMHO its a good idea to check your lasers when you get them, to make sure that you're getting what you have paid for.

that's a real shame, unless you're on top of these vendors, you never know what you're gonna get, like a box of chocolates. well atleast with arnold (abeland), you get to speak with him when you order. never heard any bad thing about him. got my lasers in no time. 3 to 4 days after the phone order.

If it seemed that I implied that you need to test the units coming from Arnold, I apologize. My statement about testing what you get had nothing to do with Mr. Beland.

i knew what you meant. i trust him very much. its the other vendor. i wont mention any name yet until i receive it and compare it next to arnold's. the one i am receiving should be much more powerful. it almost 4xs the price. arnold's passed my trust test. i am awaiting judgement for the other.

Thanks for the kind words. The Leadlight 105's really are a box of chocolates. Some will start off at 30mW and end up at 7 or even 3mW after being on for more than 1 minute. Some will keep increasing in power the longer you keep them on. I use a Lasercheck and I only record the final reading after they have been on for a full minute. If you are buying a unit that has been modified to pump more IR into the MCA I would suggest that you allow it to assume room temperature before turning it on. I have lost a few this way even though they are not modified. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink2.gif

ur welcome, arnold, its been a pleasure. enjoyed your greenie, i'll be picking up the other one you sent me last week, still frigid where i am. snow from the blizzard has kept me from riding my motorcycle. i am sure this greenie is as good as the other you sent me 3 weeks ago.

senecaripple, have you received your wicked phoenix extremes yet, and if so, how do they perform? Also, did you receive your new Arnold special?

(By the way, what is the plural form of phoenix? Is is phoenixes or phoenixs?)

Unfortunately, there is _officially_ no plural for pheonix.
The reason being that Phoenix was a proper noun for a one-of-a-kind mythical bird. However, various peoples throughout history have used 'phoenixes' and 'phoenices' although the former is the more supported

have not received the phoenxs yet, but i thought i saw something rise from the ashes, oh sorry about that, it was the aliens by antartica. did i miss something, what special is arnold having? if its just his regular laser. i'm heading home tomorrow to pick the second one up.hopefully the phoenixes will have arrived. will let u know though.

i think wonka was refering to arnolds high spec lasers. If you told arnold you were a CPF member, he would send you out a 10mW for the price of the "True 5mW". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Does a membership at CPF make you privilidged?

I don't think so.

Being a member here should not and never be used in any way to squeeze some bussinessperformance out of someone! "If you don't...I'll post on CPF..." is not how we would like dealers and the industry to remeber and associate CPF with.

Hopefully you've got that in your mind when you mention being a CPF member while doing laser deals!

That was a special offer over the xmas period wasn't it?

Arnold simply offered a more efficient laser for users from CPF...it is the same model and supposed to be same power but the luck of the draw and manufacturing variations causes some to have higher power than others.

I think the offer was done because most people on the forum would have a much higher interest in the aspects of lasers and would apperciate the power more.

"If you don't...I'll post on CPF" was certainly not the way of it...Arnold offered the higher power himself without any influence of the members here. It was in response to:

"But Wicked Lasers aside, I received a 5mw from Abeland also today - just for a mate - I tried it and hmmm that is bright for a 5mw, I compared the LED test with a previous pointer and yep theres no mistake this 5mw measures similiar to a 20mw - whats going on there? Thanks Abeland! - What was that a few posts ago about Abeland selling higher power models to CPF members, has that got something to do with it? "

That offer was in reply to a post of Superbert that was moved to the dealers forum. Post #781942

As follows:

As we are going commercial here on the forum I will make the following offer to CPF members. Buy a Leadlight at my site for $79 and you will get one that will measure AT LEAST 10mW. You will have your choice of all black, black with gold, satin silver or chrome. www.abeland1.com
