I saw this light and it looks cool but was wondering when they are gonna be sold to the general market.

I hope what they advertised is true since in another thread it looked like it was thrashing the Nitecore DI.

Thrashing the Nitecore in throw maybe, but it's a different light than the Nitecore. For one it's larger, has a reflector designed for throw so you will probably have an uglier beam, less spill, smaller hot spot, etc. Then you have the output:

AA battery: Low (60 lumens, 4 hours)--Primary (120 lumens, 2 hours)--Max (240 lumens, 50min);

60 lumens minimum? This won't be a good light for those who want a low, low, like the Nitecore DI has. Also the Nitecore has variable output, where this light does not.

Do we know if the Jet Pro is a reverse clicky, or forward clicky?

Reverse.

Too bad it does not have a low like the C-LE. A 60lm (emitter lumens so who knows how bright it really is) seems a bit much. Can you imagine navigating through your house at night with a low that bright.:sick2: Hah!

When? At first this light sounded exciting but they really missed the mark on a lot of things IMO. And when is usually about a month or more after they say it's going to be available. They have a history of not meeting release dealines on products unless they have changed - don't hold your breath.

Have to agree with Wades comments.

If JETBeam would just have a much lower low (say 10~15lm) and a forward clicky.
Could be a 'best ever' type of light.

Makes me wonder if they read any CPF posts..

It seems like they are just going for a small AA thrower. So they are going for a lot of output and a reflector that will produce a tight hot spot. Seems like it would make for a fairly limited use light. If I need throw, I'm going to my Dereelight CL1H, Regalight, DBS, etc.

It certainly doesn't sound like a versatile EDC light, since you're going to have 60 emitter lumens concentrated into a pretty tight hot spot, so it's not going to be very good for close up work, etc. Maybe they will include a snap on diffuser. :)

BTW, I'm trying to talk myself out of this light, but I'm having a hard time doing so. :)

There is a nice review of the JetBEAM JET-1 Pro at

http://light-reviews.com/jetbeam_jet-1_pro/review.html

Looks like the medium output is running on an inefficient circuit, it cuts output by half or so, but uses almost as much power based on runtime.

The low beam is not all that overly hot based on the beamshots.

Tighter beam, dimmer but large spill.

Brightness and runtime go the the Jetbeam, lux reading of the center beam by a lot.

Compare it to the Nightcore on the website above, very neat to be able to look at comparable 1 M beam shots.

I put up the $ for the preorder, and it does not seem such a bad choice. Hope they ship quickly. Saw somewhere they were on Ebay for only $62...

I have the idea that a really nicely made 1 x AA running on Eneloops will be clipped on my belt, with the Fenix L0D CE Q5 (fantastic, tiny thing) in my front pocket.

Not to say the Nightcore is perhaps just as good a choice. Wish either one of them was in stock with a reputable web dealer.

You have to figure they will fill the preorders soon...

Yeah I'll have to agree with all your comments that the Jet Pro is not so versatile and like WadeF said that they are going for output and throw more than actual EDC.

In that case the NDI is a better choice IMO ;) .

JetBeam:

Looks: Excellent

UI / Design Features: Poor - they got rid of the awful old JB interface with 10 levels and replaced it with a better interface, but a 60 lumen low is plain silly - that was high on many lights just a couple of years ago

Why can't they get both right?

Yea, I agree with many others here on this light.
Could have been so great, but the 60 lumen "low" just kills it. Reverse clickie isn't a good thing either, especially now that Jetbeam cleaned up the UI.

Myself I'm going to wait for the inevitable v2 or hope DX gets their hands on a shipment of these lights.

A search on the bay for "cree r2" brings up this light and seller. I've bought items from this seller before with no problems.

Except the price has now gone up to $75.
I'm in @$62, shipping included.

The Jet Pro might not be an EDC, but it's an impressive mini-thrower. I have never seen a light, that produces one hour of 240lm and a 3950 Lux max spot with a NiMH cell, compared with the 2030 Lux NiMH max spot of the NiteCore Defender.

Just compare the real max output runtime tests on NiMH AA --> http://www.light-reviews.com
And don't forget that the Jet Pro has a higher max!

Nitecore (00:26 to 50%) :mecry:

Jetbeam (01:02 to 50%) :twothumbs

Check out the intensity sweestpot of the Jet 1 Pro

Those are some really cool runtimes for the Jet Pro.

Great to know that something so bright and throws well that runs on normal AA batteries can last so long.
