Where to buy 3157 automotive LED holders/forms?

Folks,
Great forum you've got here. Was sent over by the folks at The LED Museum with my question thinking someone here might know the answer.

I've been looking for the plastic 3157 automotive LED holders/forms that are used for LED turn signal indicators on cars & trucks. For instance, here's an EBAY auction with a good picture of what I'm talking about:

Just looking for the plastic form, and not the LEDs. Would like to make my own, which certainly would be cheaper than the $10.00 each that vendors are selling the whole thing for.

TIA...

Tom.

Just a single quick bump of this post to see if I missed anybody who may have an answer...

Thanks again.

Darn, I had a long message typed before I logged in, and then I put the wrong username in. Bye bye message. Oh well, anyway. I've seen a few drop in replacement LEDs for cars on the net, and only one looks like its any good. LEDtronics.com is the company. They are EXPENSIVE though. There are cheap lights available, but you get what you pay for. I've seen 2 cars with cheap LEDs and all I see is a dim, round red dot about the size of a quarter for brake lights. I was so disappointed. The only thing I think would work good would be to mount some aftermarket industrial LED lights behind the factory car lenses. Check www.truck-lite.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=3925&prmenbr=26 to see some examples. This company actually has a new light that only uses ONE LED! Does anyone here think it could be a Luxeon?

CanadianGuy,
Thanks for that post. It's good to hear you indicate a preference for LED lamps for autos at http://www.LEDtronics.com. They certainly seem to have the LED thing down for sure. But man, $50.00 for one 3157 bulb replacement, Ouch! There is just no way that I'll spend that kind of cash for a single bulb replacement. Thus, my post. Sure would like to come across those 3157 assemblies without the LED's. I think I/we could do A LOT BETTER in price if we were able to buy those forms and populate them with bulk purchased LED's of OUR OWN choice.

In addition to LEDtronics, another manufacturer that the members of our forum (http://www.dodgeintrepid.net) use and suggest is those from http://www.jamstraight.com. Their Super and Hyper bright LED's are supposed to be quite bright. The Hyper bright units are supposed to be so bright that they do not recommend them for clear lens assemblies.

Seeing that these LED replacements are becoming quite popular now, I believe it's just a matter of time that a manufacturer makes those forms available to the general public, hopefully sooner than later...
