I tried to search for this and didn't come up with anything useful.

What store (retail or online) has the best prices for C and D cell Maglites? I'm looking to get a few to use as hosts / to mod, and I'm not looking to pay anymore than I have to. I didn't see them on sale at any of the big chain stores this week ads (Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Sears, Kmart). :(

I was at walmart yesterday and they had all Maglight stuff at red tag reduced prices!:D About 2 weeks ago my Target had the same deal!

I stopped by Walmart today, and there weren't any visibly marked down. I didn't bother to try scanning any of them though. :sigh:

Of the stores I went to so far Lowes seems to be the cheapest at least for D cell versions, though for the 4D Home Depot is a slightly better overall deal since it comes with "free" alkaline batteries for $20 vs ~$19 at Lowes with none.

Consistently the ebay shop with the only complete line of current production sizes and colors for all Maglites is the Gad Zooks Maglite page. Some of the cheapest prices I've come across too.
I've ordered a few C mag's from them. Took over 3 weeks to get up here to Canada via slow shipping... but slow shiping doesn't bother me much
Gad Zooks has been mentioned on CPF a few times before and criticized for slow shipping. Yeah... but there are not many places that take paypal and ship cheap USPS mail overseas... so maybe they would be a better resource for those outside the USA

opticsplanet.net has the best prices I've seen for "C" Maglites online, and they offer free shipping on order over $30. I dunno how they make money, but from what I've read, the company seems legit.

Do they have to be new? I have not tried this, and it won't be an option for some, but there are spring garage sales coming up, relatives that might be reminded they are not using the flashlight buried in the garage, and co-workers.

Would you want to build a nice Aspheric Mag in a beater mag or a new one?

I swung by Home Depot at lunch today. It looks like Lowes is the cheapest for 2D, 3D, & 4D Mags in a local B&M at normal prices. HD only had the 3D Mag + 2AA Mag combo packs for $20 (which are cheaper elsewhere), no standalone 3D Mags. As I mentioned earlier the 4D Mags are slightly more at HD, but they do come with four D cell alkalines.

I'll tell you where not to go... the UK. These are typical prices...

Solitaire $18-$24
MiniMag AAA $26-$32
MiniMag AA £$30-£36
2D $40-$50
6D $60
2D LED $110

So, erm.....yes. Avoid the UK. Ever likely people think they are premium flashlights when they are a premium price!

action-lights.com is $17.25 for 4D incandescents, and $16.75 for 3D. They have been pretty good in the past for me.
The prices are good, but shipping really kills it unless you're buying a large quantity of lights. Shipping for 2 lights is ~$11 to me in Michigan.

The one day only after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) Lowes has offered 2D, 3D and 4D Maglites at 10.00 ea.

It's a l-o-n-g wait until November 28th ...

Yep, picked up about 6 lights over the past few years from them. Unmodded they make excellent Christmas gifts. Too bad they only offer D cell lights.

If you live in UK, I'd reccomend ordering maglite from Kaidomain. Most will set you back about $30 USD shipped, but that's still a lot better than $50+.

I've been able to consistently get any sized maglite I want in stores like Lowes for within the $15-$20 range.
