I'm looking for a cheap corded spotlight for my vehicle, anyone know where I can get a decent one that's in the $10 -$50 range? Needs to have a 8' to 10' cord.

I would get a Sam's HID off of eBay or BST, yank the battery and make your own higher quality cord. Can get the parts from radio shack for pretty cheap. The lumens would be higher and the current draw would be less than half.

The only downside is the size is a BIT larger, but not much.

You could use a Big Beam 50S12 http://www.bigbeam.com/lantern_50s12.html and replace it's bulb with http://www.atrlighting.com/webstore/atrretail.php?dd=4509 "very easy to do:thumbsup:" The 4509S shielded version. This bulb will have absolutely incredible throw :faint:wile offering no side spill at all. You can actually look right at the in side of the reflector when it's on because the secondary reflector only allows light to go strait forward. you could opt for another bulb with sidespill though.

Bulb= probably $8
Light= $40
Only= $48 total

Also I want to add without your car running, you are likely to have a current of 7-8 amps which is pretty high. Might be to high for a simple plug in. An HID solution draws less than half of that.

Is it absolutely necessary to yank the battery, other than to make it lighter?

There's a tread somewhere here where one P.O.B. owner added a lighter style socket on the back of the handle, and wired parallel with the battery, if I understood it correctly. I think the goal was that it could either power light loads from the HID's battery if needed, or plug in to power the HID from the vehicle's lighter socket. I'm guessing this would also charge the HID's battery, as the vehicle should be running around the same 13.8v that the AC adaptor puts out?

All auto parts stores have corded 12V lights that use the H3 bulb. Those usually run around $15 and are very simple so they are easy to repair if needed.

Edit: I cut off the cigarette plug and spliced on clips so I could connect onto the battery terminals instead.

Thanks for the links and info, now I need to decide which one to get. :ohgeez:

WallyWorld, Target, Costco's, K-Mart, AutoZone, Napa, Ace Hardware and perhaps Walgreens just to name a few brick & mortar retail outlets...
