Want to replace the LED on my KeyMate with a red one. I have some from a long time ago from RadioShack or whatever place I got them from, but they are very dim. Are there any red 5mm LEDs that have similar output to the Nichias and other white 5mm LEDs?
Thanks.

Avago (Agilent/HP) has 5mm LEDS that I think you can run at 50-70mA. They are designed for outdoor sign boards. I remember seeing this in an electronics rag.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I looked around and the bright 5mm LEDs seem a bit pricey when shipping's accounted for. Plus, red LEDs take only up to 2.4V max, and my KeyMate runs off 4x 1.5V button cells (works fine with a white LED, so I assume the actual voltage sags to 4V when on). This would still blow a red LED tho. I might just pick up a few photon-clones from Dae and wait till the batteries die and rip the LED out...much cheaper.
