Whew, I hope I didn\'t lose my lasers!

Oh man... Do I feel like crap right now... I just realized that I left my laser case in a hotel I stayed at last week. I lost the old-style 385mW PGL-III with the Pila battery, a 190mW new-style PGL-III, a modified 50mW Leadlight, a stock 5mW Leadlight, a modified 12mW red pointer, and the Coherent LaserCheck power meter! There goes a couple thousand dollars down the tubes. I can't believe I was so stupid. Of course the hotel security has no report of a "case of lasers" that was turned in as found. The guy thought I was nuts when I just called and asked. He said "can you describe this case full of lasers?" and I said, "it was a black case with a red DANGER sticker on the outside of it, and 5 black lasers of various sizes inside, each containing their own DANGER sticker, along with a bunch of C-size batteries." He paused, and I was afraid he was going to call Homeland Security or something, but he searched the books and said nothing was found. Oh well, easy come, easy go I guess. I just hope they end up in responsible hands. I'm now laserless. OUCH!

Edit: Received a call from the Security guy - I think they have the case! Whew!

Re: Wow, I feel like crap.

Are you sure that that's where you left it? If so, I'd be talking to someone higher up than the security guy. If you left it in your room, then it's most likely that housekeeping found it. If this was a reputable establishment, I'd be talking to someone at the corporate level about "finding" it. Good luck.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/au.gif Thats gotta hurt.

A moments silence for shiftlocks lasers. Undoubtably they have probably fallen into the hands of someone who would not appreciate them as much as he........

Shiftolck, did you leave them in like the cupboard in the motel?

Re: Wow, I feel like crap.

wow, that is absolutely intolerable. If I were you I would be all over that hotel like a <insert bad analogy here>. But I'm sure you've thought of that already. Have you at least gone back to the hotel to give it a look? seriously, losing that much stuff, lasers or not, is just intolerable. But hey, once I get my PGL-III you can come over and play with it if you want; I live relatively close to you. (assuming you live in Darien, CT like the registration info on lasershoppe.com says)

Re: Wow, I feel like crap.

That really stinks...sorry. I have to agree with LitFuse on this...send registered letter to the hotel manager and to the hotel chain home office asking for an investigation. The hotel cleaning service would have found it when you checked out and they cleaned your room. An investigation might prove fruitful.

Re: Wow, I feel like crap.

LitFuse, the guy actually suggested I call Housekeeping in the morning when they get in, but he said that it probably would have been turned in to security. Last thing I remember, I took the laser case out of my bag and took out the 385mW PGL-III. I hung my hand out the 15th floor window to see how far the beam would go out across the water of Long Island Sound. It was really amazing, and the beam went for miles, even lighting up a sand dune on the other side of the Sound about 12 miles away. I remember putting it back in the case, but I was extremely tired, so I went to bed and checked out in the morning. I don't recall putting the laser case back in my bag. I didn't think about the lasers until a little while ago when a post here prompted me to get the Coherent LaserCheck, and that's when I realized the laser case wasn't where it usually is. Then I entered panic mode, and now I'm trying to relax so I can get to sleep tonight. This really stinks.

Re: Wow, I feel like crap.

OH MY GOD - it looks like I may get my lasers back. I just got a phone call from the security guy I spoke to earlier. I left my cell number with him and told him to call me ANYTIME if anything turns up. He spoke to a different security guy who heard something about a strange looking case that they were afraid to open because it said DANGER on it. They believe it was put into a safe by the security manager, who "filed a report" about it. He suggested I call the security manager in the morning when he gets in. He's pretty sure they have the case though. I just hope all the lasers are in the case. Forget calling in the morning, I'm going straight there. What a roller coaster the past hour has been. NOW I can sleep! Sorry to alarm you all.

Thank god. I really hope you get them back. No one deserves to have those lasers more than you do.

THIS is not the kind of post that we'd want to see on CPF. In case you are in possession of an appropriate license to do this the least you should have done is adding an explanation about why you are allowed to shine your big bad laser outside while Average Joe is not and why it's safe when you are doing it.

I didn't loose a super-knive but my laptop was stolen last break...
Ok, this is getting a bit OT.

Re: Whew, I hope I didn\'t lose my lasers!

I did get my lasers back, after giving a demonstration to the security crew. Thanks for all of your concern. To the moderator - I don't want to get into a debate about why I "am allowed" to shine my "big bad laser" anywhere, and I really don't feel like explaining myself. All I'll say is that I shined the laser at an unpopulated body of water for a very breif period of time. I think all this "lasers at the airplanes" talk has people a little paranoid, but I'll refrain from mentioning any use of my lasers outdoors in the future if that's what is wanted around here.

Re: Whew, I hope I didn\'t lose my lasers!

Shiftlock, enough for me. I do not care about what you do, just don't talk about it here.

EDIT: glad you got them back, I really don't want to think about what could have happened had some kids or dim-witted persons got their hands on these ...
