I want to grab a decent helmet lamp for my tactical helmet. Alot of guys are using energizer or other cheap ones. I want a good one because my buddies energizer fell of his helmet and smashed into pieces! How does surefire compare to others for durability and bad conditions? What color LED should I get? They have several options. I was thinking the white with red. Is the inferred the one for night ops to preserve night vision and give off low signature? Or is IR only for night vision?

I've had my SF for a few years now, and it has survived several deployments and trips to the snad-box. The built in disable function is nice as well, and the Z71 vest/magnetic mount is a nice option. The contorls are intuitive and become second nature. As far as colors, I'd go with the red and white. The IR one isn't "low signature", but mil-spec IR and only visible through NVG's. These are tough, and mine has been rained on, dropped, thrown around (while attached to my helemt none the less, and this is with the heavier PASGT helmets as well). Go with the SF and you won't be dissappointed. Oh, did I mention, it's also the one with the lowest profile...won't get snagged as easier as the other lights out there. Hope this helps!

Here's a pic of mine on the Z71 IBA mount...it attaches to any molle webbing and has two magnets on the back to mount to the roof of a vehicle, (i.e. inside an MRAP) etc.
