I want to own a McGizmo light but not sure which one I want. Here are my needs. I have been recommended the HD45, the 27LT, then there are akk the different LED's. I really like the looks of the 27LT. I just need some help here.

1. Waterproof
2. Bright...Combo of throw and flood
3. Pocket Clip
4. Not TOO big
5. Runs on 2-123 Cells
6. High and Low Setting

7. Thats about all I need!!! Thanks

27LT has everything on your list but flood.

HD45 has everything on your list but its big and no clip.

You gotta sacrifice....

You can't go wrong with a 27LT, it's one of my favorite and most useful lights. Think 'overbuilt' (if such a thing exists...), yet suprisingly easy to carry. I found that the LUX III had better throw, while the LUX V version had better flood (or really a bigger brighter hotspot!) The "S" version is the top of the line, but expect to pay for it! I'm quite happy with my lowly Lux III, and will upgrade it when the time is right!

27LT-S (Seoul) is great - very bright with good throw and excellent spill and
just about the smoothest beam of any flashlight with a reflector that's
obtainable.

Even if they are a bit more than the luxeon versions, I think they're
definitely worth it.

If you can find a XR-19 PD, it should meet your requirements nicely and be smaller too. I love mine.

The PD-S is much more compact than the 27LT-S, has an even better beam with a smoother transition to a wider spill, with only slightly less throw. On low it is dimmer, but runs for some 50 hours in perfect regulation.

The 27lt is extremely heavy duty. It will take care of your needs just fine.
Now the challenge becomes finding one....and not paying an arm and a leg for it.
The-s variety is brighter than the LUXIII variety. I am pretty sure that of the lights Don makes the -s may be driving the emitter the hardest.
The 27 LT is not the most beautiful light but it is full of utility and will be for many years to come.

Controversial talk about the beam ;)

Many think the 27L reflector's beam can't be bettered and owning both
lights, I agree. However both lights have excellent beams, no doubt about
that.

Its true that the PD-S is much more compact and therefore more suitable
as an EDC.

The 27LT-S throws a lot further than the PD-S though, and is brighter on both
low and high settings, so would be more useful in situations requiring more
illumination and at greater distances.

It depends entirely on what you want to use it for.

IMHO anyone you can get your hands on!!! Ti PD is my #1

I agree with this statement:

I love my titanium lights. That said I believe that a light made in titanium is just too costly. I have several and I doubt I will be adding any more to my collection until the prices fall from the sky. The simple reality is that titanium as a raw material is just plain expensive.
Somebody said that the beam on the 27LT is arguably one of the best ever. I agree that Don's 27mm reflector when married to the right emitter is the best there is.
At this point in time being picky may not work versus taking any one of them that you can find.
As time rolls on the stock Pd's value rise as they become harder to find since production has stopped.
The same is true with the 27LT. BTW if you do buy a 27LT you should try to get one with one of mt beefy MOFObezels...Just plug.
You may want to look over at the shoppe...I seem to remember that they were selling complete 27LT's for a while..maybe they still are.
Personally buying this light in titanium doesn't add much except for cost and looks. The black anno which you find on the aluminum lights which Don produced for some time holds up extremely well to all kinds of abuse.
I EDC a PD-s (I was the dummy beta tester for the PD-S project I own the first one. it was done as a mod for me by Don). I love this light it will take something really special to get me to EDC something else.
When it comes down to size I have to say that I prefer a single cell light over a 2 cell light for EDC.

The old stock CPF saying comes to mind. "when in doubt buy both".

Hivoltage was asking earlier about a light that would outthrow his/her current pocket lights which include the P1D CE. Because of this I'd say go for the 27LT, if the HD45 is too big.

Great ideas here. I too was going to chime in on an Aleph 1 head. I've got one on a Peu pineapple and a McT tailcap and love it. Another (pricey) option is the Ti S27Cx2. Titanium (tough as Hell), two cells (some 17670s fit too), and the same 917mA drive level as the 27LT-s. Tailcap clicky and two stage lighting by twisting the head. Only 30 or so were made, so they aren't easy to come by. The 27LT-s is an amazing light too. I've fallen in love with the McR27 reflectors.:twothumbs

Once I saw the subject line I was going to write exactly what Griff said and Mofo emphasised. . . get any you can get your hands on.
Don makes some of the finest flashlights money can buy (PERIOD)
