who doesn't like leather! but I do like kydex for weather wear and tactical nylon is inexpensive and light, which do you prefer?

very nice!!!

Well, I have wanted a sebenza for years! I mean 10 years to be exact, but whenever I saved up I ended up buying something cheaper every time...But I finaly just decided to buy one the day I got ym paycheck so I couldn't go back on my own promise to myself, I figured I would have to just buy one before I thoguht about it, lol...and I did...When I got it I was so happy, then I realized that I wanted a nice custom leather sheath for it, something nice...So I contacted Vadim from Vess leatherworks, a canadian member who I have seen his work on the forums before and like it..I told him exactly what I wanted and he said ok...Infact the 1st one didn't come out how he wanted it to so he scratched it and made it again..Which just shows me how much he cares...Anyway I wanted somethgin to match the black and white micarta inserts ont eh sebenza, so I went with a black leather sheath, white stitching, black skinray insert (shaved to show white dots) horizontal carry, and fitten for the knife with the clip on incase I want to clip it to my pocket...and I love how it came out!!!! My grandfather passed away soon after I got ym knife so I wanted to get somethgin to remember him by doen on the sheath...He use to love ducks and owls, so I had Vadim do a white owl on it...I think it came out nice! And of course...here are some pics...

The knife is a Chris Reeve small classic sebenza with micarta inserts...

he did a beautiful job! the owl is excellent :) nice pictures too. thanks for sharing.

yeah I'm in the PNW and I worry about mold and stuff on my leather (have to really store clothes and shoes safe) so I was wondering about that.

Dantor those are beautiful looking! In my book, nothing looks better than good leather.

Cutlerylover - that is a BEAUTIFUL knife and sheath. The owl came out really nice. That shaved skinray is great too.

Jeff, I've seen your picture before (beauti-ous again bro) so I'm figuring you've had it for a little while now, and my question is;

is it worth it, the sebbie? I mean baring all the hype and prestige about the blade, is it really worth it for you now that you've had it?

You've used it now and carried it and cut things with it, I'm sure! The reason I ask is because I've thought about getting one some day :D

Yeah, it is...Before I got it, I would have said, no way, if I ever got oen I wouldn't use it because I woudl be affraid it woudl get all messed up and scratched...And when I gotr it, for the 1st week I barely used it, but one day I though WTF, lol, now or never and whipped it out to cut open a box, ripped right through all the tape and everything, and then on to another dirty job the nbext day, and so forth...I still cringe a little bit when using it heavily, but I don't mind, it works great! I have to say, it really is worth the hefty price tag...It has simple things that make it worth it, and seperate it from other knives...The pivot bushing for one...something most other knives do not have...Its a simple idea, the pivot screw can be tightened all the way down and there is perfect tension on the blade everytime, no fiddling with the tension...The lockup is superb! Its simplicty and perfection is really what its all about..So yes, its worth havign in your hands at least once, then if you don't like it for the price you could alwasy sell it off, or trade it...So I suggest if your thinking about getting one, go for it!

ty sir, I may get one (after I save!) I think it will be worth it but it's nice to hear what the owners say.

Anyone who has had one would say the same thing...Its not a knife for everyone, if you happen to lose your nife all the time, like some poeple, you might not want such an expensive folder, or if you do really really dirty cutting jobs...Some peopl0e just dont wan tto spend that much, I got a bit of advice from another knife forum member once when I just joined back in the day...He said, "buy the best knife you can afford, and enjoy using it" Its that simple...Some peopel can afford the sebenza, but they are plenty happy with a $10 mora, or Opinel..Its about what you like most, just because its expensive, it does not mean its the best for one individual...But...if you like nice folders, it is up there as the very best production folder in my book, hands down!

p.s. I can't afford a sebenza and a custom sheath for it, lol, but I sacraficed one month and missed a bill or two to do it...which I am getting caught up with now...So for me, I just had to make the choice, but I am happy with my decision...

I have a great Lifter's leather pancake sheath that came with my Carrillo Tripwire. Top-rate quality and craftsmanship. I'll try to post some pics later.

Wow! That Vess sheath is beautiful.

Here is one I carry my micarta OHT in frequently. This is a wet-molded leather sheath made by a SOSAK friend from Argentina. The fit is perfect, and he did a great job on the hand-carved SOSAK emblem:

"buy the best knife you can afford, and enjoy using it"

I say buy a cheap Swiss Army knife, and save your money for flashlights

If you do get a nice knife, get a small Swiss Army knife to keep it company so you are not tempted to use that fancy blade as a screwdriver :eeksign:
