Which single red LED light for this application?

I would be interested in opinions on which of the following lights you would think best suited for this application.

For a lens light on a motion picture camera. This is a very near field setup. The light would be directed at the witness marks on motion picture lenses in low light situations, held in place on an orientable mount.

I believe that red would be the best color LED. I also think that very high intensity isn't necessarily a good thing here, and that consistent output is (such as regulated).

Arc AAA
CMG Infinity
CMG Ultra Infinity
Streamlight Stylus 3

Yes, there's even a rig for this exact use of the Stylus 3, though I think it is the least appealing form factor, due to length. I think the CMG's are most appealing due to smooth barrel to clamp onto. However, I have never seen any of these in red LED incarnations.

Another option would be the UK2AAA mini, which has an optional red led module and comes with a nice clip. I use mine in the darkroom to check enlarger f-stops and such. It's not regulated, but the batteries seem to last a very long time. I find the flat shape with the side-by-side AAA configuration makes it easier to turn on than a cylindical light.

This is screaming "mod" to me. A single AAA brinkman, converted to LED+21/23 battery, with a larger than normal resistor and red LED. The advantage is that you can adjust the light to whatever brightness you want by changing the resistor, and the brinkman has a very easy to turn on/off switch. This is a very easy mod, takes maybe 10-15 minutes even if you've never done it before.

I would think the Arc-AAA, while my favorite flashlight, would be way too bright for this, and the infinity is kinda big.

Thanks for the responses.

Albany Tom, the size of the Infinity is in no way too big. In most setups a motion picture camera has all manner of attachments on it, including mounted to the iris rods for the lens. In many instances we're talking about 35mm lenses in the 20-30 pound range, primarily Panavision and Arri camera packages. My follow focus would dwarf these lights. The standard Arriflex lens light below is larger than these options.

PhotonRanger, many of the arms/clamps/clips are designed for cylindrical lights. Additionally, film shoots require especially rugged products, and as nearly everything else in a camera package is made out of machined and anodized aluminum, I would prefer that in a light as well.

Here for example is the standard lens light on an Arri 16SR3 16mm camera that I often work with:

Here's the Streamlight on a lens:

How about this then, how does the output of the above lights with a red LEDs compare? For example, which is brightest between the Streamlight and the CMGs, etc.

Thanks
