Who can build this Tri-MC-E for me?

I'm looking for a triple MC-E 3D Mag-Mod and I'm not sure I want to tackle this myself. I have a nice new fluted and grooved 3D and I want something noticeably brighter than my ROP-Hi so I'm thinking triple MC-E with a warm-to-neutral white tint and the latest K or M group bin. I'd like to run it off of 3 Accupower LSD NiMH cells (3.6V total). I'm looking for someone experienced in this type of mod who can provide me with an assembled heat sink, LEDs, reflectors and possibly the wiring and switch. I don't know if this is possible but it would be great if I could just drop this into my light instead of sending it out. I know this won't be a cheap mod as the parts alone are over $125 (I'm hoping to run this direct-drive), but I'm hoping it won't break the bank either.

If you can do this, or know someone that can, please post here or send me a PM. Thanks.

I would be happy to build it for you, but i am swamped at the moment
with other projects... :mecry:

I am not sure, but LED Zeppelin might be able to help you out. He has done 2 mods for me and they are awesome (not the MC-E though). However, you might have to send him the host to work on.

Good luck on your search.

Just having a quickl look at this, I think you might have some trouble with your choice of cells. A corner of the ceiling calculation shows that you would be trying to draw somewhere in the region of 8-9 amps from the cells to drive 3 MC-Es at 700mA. I don't know of any single driver that could handle that sort of load (although 3 Sharks would probably manage). The other problem are voltage drops at that current, the Maglite switch would certainly not fair well at that draw.

Just a though, I don't have any equipment to machine a heatsink so I am afraid I am of no help, just throwing in my two-penneth.

Good luck,

Andrew

It might be easier to use SSC P7's since the dice are already wired in parallel which means you wouldn't have to mess around with fiddly soldering or PCB's. "J" voltage bins would be ideal for direct drive. Since the emitters would be connected in parallel, the thermal slug of the P7 would not need to be isolated (I think).

3 emitters in parallel with 3 NiMh would be fine for DD.

I think the cells would be OK since a 8-9 amp draw is less than 1C, but...I forgot about the weak link of the Mag switch. Back to the drawing board.

If you run the 3 LEDs in series and go 9AA to 3D you get 3A at 10.8V. The M@g switch can handle that.
You need to make sure your batteries can handle 3A. Check Silverfox's thread on NiMH AA/AAA batteries.

Do not use KD 3AA to D trays. They melt under that kind of load.
Use fivemega

or mdocod
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=195976
And you will have to find the right circuit board(s). You may get away with direct drive.

email [email protected] and see what he thinks. He is looking at 4MCE with 6D/NiMH or 2D Li-on.
Hint. Wayne is fairly busy so if you mention you are supplying the flashlight body and the battery adapters it might help.

There are 20 mm reflectors/optics for the MCE. 3 would fit a M@g head.
The smallest reflector for the SSC-P7 is 27 mm. 3 won't fit.
