I own the GL2R, GL3R and GL4R.
anyway, I have the GL3R mounted to my shotgun. I use the GL4R as my duty flashlight. The GL2R is a back up spare light.
When I purchased the 4R all that was available was the 9v lamp, and I purchased spare lamps for the flashlight. Now that the 4R comes with a 12v lamp, I purchased a few of these and have the 9v lamps sitting idle. This kinda gives me an excuse to purchase another flashlight. I figure the 3X takes the lamps I already have so why not?

Just curious about the balance and feel of the GL3X, I have a clickie cap and an LED cap that will fit as well as the PILA red filter.

Thoughts ?

Madecov>its the same as your GL4 but of course a bit smaller. I have a demo you can try on for size and see how ya like it.

Madecov,

The Pila GL3X looks just like the GL4 but about a 1/3 shorter. I personally like its feel and balance, but mostly prefer it mounted to a weapon over the G3 becuase of its wide angle beam.

Could someone describe the difference in the beams of the GL3 vs the GL3/4x.

The GL4 is the same size as SF L-6. The beam is huge with throw! At 10' the hot spot is over 2' and the side spill 9'. Yep the side spill is at nearly 45 degrees. It has everything that I need in a flashlight: a long throwing wide hot spot, wide side spill, and with the white LED tailcap a long run time (several days) low level utility light. Hiking in the woods at night I used to carry 2 lights. A low level utility and a throw light. You know... two hands...two lights... Now the path is adequately lit with the four LED's in the tail cap. If the situation requires throw, just flip the light over and illuminate. In candle mode the GL4 sits very securely on it's incandesent's base reflecting the tailcap's LED light off the ceiling. With the Pilas I have guilt free lumens. As a back up cr123's can be used. I purchased this light based on Madecov's reviews and because Jon is such a darn good pleasant sales man to deal with. BTW can you tell that I'm pleased with it?

Hey bug out,
How/what did you use for a weapon mount ? and what firearm?
I have my GL3R mounted to a benelli nova pump for duty use and it rocks. Getting a secure mount was an adventure.

I have it mounted to my Bushy Carbine with a standard First Samco Picatinny Rail adapter. I carry them on my site if you want one. The mount will fit any Weaver style or Picatinny rail and will fit all of the Pila flashlights except for the G2 series becuase the light is too short. We also carry the coiled remotes for the Pilas which I have mounted to my AR handguards. Makes a nice set-up.

Hey madecov,

I bought a M90 awhile back on your recommendation and like it fine. I also read you were using 12 volt lamps and 123s in yours right? Now I see the Pilas come with a 12 volt lamp and can run either 123s or the rechargables. Whats the deal with this? Whats the difference on the 12 volt lamp when running the 168s vrs the 123s? What can I do to my M90 to run it dual power? Buy a 12 volt lamp? If so, can I run it on the 168s without harm or do I have to switch lamps back and forth along with the different batteries?
Thanx....

The 12v sorta works like Surefire's HOLA vs LOLA. If you run a 12v lamp on the 168 battery you get the 80 minute run and 130 lumens. If you run the same lamp on 4xDL123 (12v) you get around 180 Lumens and 45 minute run. If you run the 9v lamp on 4x123's you get a blown bulb /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif (I goofed and blew one).

If you decide to get spare lamps, just get the 12v lamps and you can go back and forth with no other changes.

Bugout, I finally found a mount to allow my GL3R to be used on a Benelli Nova and have the coiled tape switch. There really are not a lot of mounting options available for the Nova.

Thanks madecov, I figured it out by looking at the Pila site. I guess my queston would be if running the 12 volt lamp on the 168s is the same as running the 9 volt lamp.
Both are 130 lumens but is the 12 volt color different because your underdriving it? Is it yellower than the 9 volt lamp? Any beam differences at all between the 12 and 9 when run on the 168s? Thanx again...

I noticed no difference in the lamp output color, well maybe the it is a bit whiter on the DL123's. But it makes for one hell of a versatile light.
