Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'s?

I've ordered the LSL.. but when I look around for information on it, it's like I've gotta really dig deep to find it.
However, information on the LSH is amazingly abundant..

Did I make a mistake here? How much more throw does the LSH really have compared to the LSL?

Maybe I'll pick up one of the seconds on top of the LSL if they're around come Christmas time..

Thanks.

Not only does the LSH have better throw, but better color as well. I certainly prefer the HD LS for both of these characteristics over the LD.

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'

Tighter spot and longer throw is, seemingly, the reason for the preference of the LSH over the LSL.

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'

For me it's;

-Tighter beam
-Whiter light (color)
-Longer throw
-More side spill

What more could I ask for? (LS4 maybe? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Different strokes for different folks.

They're both great lights, just look at the few threads here that discussed the differences in throw, spill, etc, and you'll see which you prefer.

To me, the extra bucks that the LSH commands is a side issue -- if I had wanted what the LSLs had to offer, I would have chosen that route without hesitation.

thanks guys.
i figure the throw would be a factor..
i wasn't aware of the nicer color tho.. probly due to the spot, huh?

*puts some funds away to get a second*

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'s?

i edc the lsl-s due to the fact that the more flood is best in my work.like inside plc cabinets, under the hood of a truck, ect.i have a few greykits i put high ranked hd,s into but the ld is used the most.
must order a few more before they are gone.

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'s?

I have a LSH, and I changed the LS to a Q3J and am VERY happy with it. If I bought another one, I'd buy a LSL-S and replace the LS with a high dome lambertian and save quite a few bucks! The only drawback is the engraving on the head "LSL-S".

I was quite happy with my LSL-S colorwise and beamwise ... due to excessive lights it now has a happy home in Singapore ...

not to thread hijack, but how did you wizards get the HD centered?--I've done the Q3J swap and after fiddling with it, the beam still sez "off-center" (square and circle not centered on each other)

maybe there is a different NX05 for a HD/LD

BlindedByTheLite,

I sort of lucked out in the seconds lottery, I got an LSL-P and an LSH-P. I really like my LSL-P (second), it's a little on the blue'ish side but not unreasonably so. I use that as my bedside light with the 2AA tail pack. It does a really nice job of lighting up the room. My LSH-P (second), nothing wrong with it as far as I can tell ..... is my EDC along with an Arc AAA. We live in the woods, in the country, and the extra throw of the LSH-P is a nice bonus. However, it's dark enough that the LSL-P throws a pretty nice distance too. I could totally get by without the LSH-P (second).

I would in no way feel left out if I only had the LSL-P. In fact, I would not be opposed to having another LSL-P. For the money and size, I think the LS series is a sweet deal no matter which one you get. It's a bunch of light with good run times in a (my opinion) pretty small package. The LS's (all of them)blow the doors off my old mini-m@g.

IMHO-the Low-Dome (with a decent Luxeon)
still makes a great all-around semi-spot beam for general use.

Thankx to being able to get a really great MMX+Q3(LD) from another CPFer, I have a pocket sized light that makes most of my other 100+ lower powered lights look just Sick by comparison. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'

I'm very happy with my LSL-S for use as a work carry. Don't usually need a long throw light at work, and the flood pattern has been useful for illuminating dark corners of animal exhibits and other close in applications. The beam color and brightness on my "S" is very good, and at the close-out price, it was a great deal.

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'

well..
it seems i have to cross my fingers and hope to get a good luxeon.
i'll be screwed if i don't tho.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'

I'm quite happy with my LSL first. We live in the country also and this thing lights up the woods like crazy. Also, I like a flood-like beam more than a tight spot for most situations, especially illumination for repairs or practical projects. For long throw, a good incandescent such as the E2e, Legend LX, etc is a better performer.

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'

I like the LSL better because it lights up a bigger area.
If I want to have more throw i will use my streamlight TL-2.
Maybe not awesome but it's all the brighter I need. Arc-aaa turquoise, ARC-LSL, TL-2. Thats about all I need!!!

Re: Why are LSH\'s seemingly so preferred over LSL\'

I carry an Arc SLS and although it's not as bright or as white as my LSH-Ps it's still my favorite Arc. Sometimes I look at the scratches and dings it has gathered over the time and I remember what happened then - I definitely remember the first one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I wonder how long it will take to wear out that light...
