Just received my Phoenix today... some interesting results. I'll be uploading the review over the next couple of days.

For now here's a preview:

*Snap* Nice matching meter gecko991.

I've just about finished the review... I only need to do a divergence test... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

Those Phoenix's are pretty birds. How much will one of those take from your pocket?

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

Hi Lasermod,
Yes, please do a divergence test, I would be very interested since WL was telling people that they were reducing the divergence on these do to aircraft concerns when someone complained their divergence was too large.

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

If a laser beam travels 100meters and the 'dot' is 110mm in diameter, then the divergence is 110mm/100meter = 0.0011 = 1.1 mrad. Here (mrad) 'm' is 'milli' meaning 1/1000, 'rad' is 'radian'. For phoenix's, I think it is <1.2mrad (Not Mrad as the Wicked Laser said).

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

It is <1.5mRad on their website - I was also under the impression it was 1.2...

A Phoenix will set you back $414. Great for me as the dollar exchange is quite good at the moment. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW: Excellent avator deezdrama05 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

on www.wickedlasers.com they wont sell anything past 50mW to just anyone, since when? and what kind of reason are they they looking for? i think the fact of owning an 80mW laser is reason enough ahhhhhhh THE POWER!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

Thanks I thre it together in adobe imageready but I think ill have to change it soon as I got a pm tonight from an admin saying it is too borderline.....cmon its a ufo checking out laser activity not osama pointing at a passenger jet.

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

Excellent review. Very to the point. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks for doin that.

It's unfortunate that the public can't get these things anymore though. Now you need a password to order any of the lasers 50mW > /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

ugh i want one!!! it's so unfortunate that its not avaliable to just anyone anymore /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif not that i have the money to buy one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif

Re: Wicked Extreme Phoenix

That's a CNI product.

I had one over two years ago and was able to get 130 mW out of it by turning the pot to the tune of 560 mA. Of course mine was not stable at all but it was fun to use.

It met its demise when it fell out of my shirt pocket (a dumb place to keep it, I know!) while leaning over a battery bank and caused a short. I was actually lucky that I didn't get hurt from the sparks and flames that ensued thereafter.

I have bad luck with lasers on the water. My leadlight that I modified to 50mW back in 2001 fell overboard and despite it having a tether, was recovered but the results were obviously catastrophic. Saltwater and lasers don't mix.

I'm curious to see what CNI's "underwater PGL" laser is going to be like. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
