Wide/Spot Headlamp 3-mode uses AA or 14500 for $16

This Headlamp has just about everything I want.

Modes are High-Low-Strobe, no memory. Switched by light press on Power Button.

Very small and light weight.

Very solid housing and excellent headband.

Fairly splashproof - Oring in battery cover.

OK the Wide isn't really wide. Spot gives Die image.

Yes, it does get warm on High.

Even the belt pouch is well made and roomy.

Throw away the LiIon charger - it overcharges. Throw away the 14500 cell - unprotected.

But for $16 posted anywhere, this is GREAT value.

If they made it with a lower Medium setting and no zoom (wide angle only) plus sold it without the 14500 and charger (and at a suitably lower price) it would probably sell like hot cakes.

The LOW setting is closer to 30% brightness.

I don't understand why a light withOUT the ability to zoom to a spot would be more popular.

Selling it without the 14500 and charger might drop the price to $10 - but I don't know that more people would jump, when $16 is already so cheap for so much functionality.

Actually it does have an annoying form of memory - every time you turn it on, it goes to the next mode e.g. turn it off in Strobe and it comes on in High, turn it off in High and it comes on in Low.

So you can set it to come on in a known mode, it's just a pain to do it !

I've just found out that Dx do sell it without 14500 and Charger !!! For the grand saving of . . . . . . $2.30

how does this compare to the Petzl Tikka Plus2?

The TP2 has a listed output of 50 lumen at 35m.

This headlamp has a listed output of 120 lumen at 10m.


I am new to flashlight and headlamps. Which is better for camping? I am leaning towards the TP2 for battery life.

I have ordered two of these on eBay for $8.38 shipped each without the battery or charger. I believe it is the exact same headlamp though. They haven't arrived yet, should be here any day. Ebay item # 250779304687
